Summary: Most people right away will assume this is just a newer version of the Mutant League games due to the cover being kind of similar. Those people will be wrong ;). I had read some poor reviews for this game and decided to give it a whirl on PSP, I liked it so much I went out and bought it on XBOX 360 as well, it's primarily the same game just online capable and nicer graphics of course.
Summary: Let me begin by stating that I have played the original table top Blood Bowl game for many years, so the overall game is not a new experience to me. I have read many people trying to say it is a rip-off of this or that and let me be clear - it most definitely is not! It is a faithful adaptation of the table top game. Now I have to say, with that in mind, the game is a lot of fun! You have to use tactics and careful planning to challenge your opponent.
Summary: This game is based on an old RPG-type board game. I never played it. I did play Mutant League Football for Sega Genesis eons ago and was looking for a similar game (since EA is doing nothing with the property). This game is nothing like that (except for the maiming). But it is still fun once you get the hang of certain gameplay elements. You take turns moving your players (running, passing and blocking) to set up plays and score a touchdown.
Excerpt: "When I was younger I remember playing the Bloodbowl boardgame, and I loved it. The simple approach and bloodthirsty gameplay, plus the fact that a game could be played within around an hour kept drawing me back for more. So, now around ten years later, I was pleased and a little curious to discover that a PC game of Bloodbowl was in the shops. I took the gamble and shelled out the relatively small amount of cash, and installed it I was not disappointing, ...
Pros: A perfect rendition of the Boardgame; Easy to get started; Free multiplayer
Conclusion: well worth 12 quid. not graphic intensive so an average PC should be ok. its a slow paced game so you could really play while watching tv etc. but its addictive. each race has a different style and you need to use different tactics for each. so if you get bored of 1 race, youve got 19 others to choose from.
Conclusion: I am enjoying this game much more than I expected. The gameplay of the actual matches is fantastic will moments of immense satisfaction, outrage and unbearable tension (e.g. failing a one square go for it for a last turn touchdown) and I cannot agree with the reviewer who thinks it is poor due to them AI adopting a legitimate tactic I am only giving it 4 stars as the behind the scenes part of the game, which although good enough (especially how your players develop) as...
Conclusion: I am a huge fan of the board game. This game is an exact copy of the board game in the stategy mode. It really does work well and will give you hours of fun. The blitz RT mode is also good but i bought it purely for the boardgame style. Only problem is you only have the 8 races at the moment so i hope they bring out an expansion soon with the rest of them.
Conclusion: Very good recreation of the 3rd edition of the board game (I preffered the 2nd edition) Great fun in Blitz mode leveling up your players and giving them new skills, equipment etc, then nothing more frustrating than when your star player gets injured or killed!
