Black and White 2

The Armchair Empire

  • Conclusion: BW was truly a gift in a market of games where most are clones of one another with slight differences sometimes gone unnoticed. The upcoming sequel, again being lead by Peter Molyneux ( Fable, BC) , has already surpassed its predecessor in hype and anticipation. Where the first one lacked, Black & White 2 will furnish. The premise of the second game is identical to the first with the same tagline, “Will you be an evil or benevolent deity?

  • Excerpt: Interacting with the world is also relatively trouble-free. Your hand allows you to manipulate anything within your area of control on each map. Whether you're uprooting trees, flinging boulders, slapping your monkey or moving villagers around, working with the hand is wonderfully intuitive. As with the camera, there are a few aggravations here. Trying to pick up a farmer from the middle of a field is overly difficult.
  • Pros: Black & White 2 is very addicting, also has great scenery, sunsets are beautiful.
  • Cons: Sometimes the voice acting gets a little to cheesy. Cant Skip the tutorials.

  • Excerpt: The character of your land will also change to reflect your alignment. If you've been evil, the land around your towns will be grey and cracked with bits of magma showing through the small fissures. If you've been good the land around will be rich and lush. The same is true of your hand. By the end of my game, I had become so evil that my hand had long, pointed nails, was an unhealthy color and was covered in strange tattoos.
  • Pros: Black & White 2 is very addicting, also has great scenery, sunsets are beautiful.
  • Cons: Sometimes the voice acting gets a little to cheesy. Cant Skip the tutorials.

Black & White II

Strategy Informer
24 August 2006
  • Excerpt: Disappointments are not something I deal with well, especially when I’m certain someone could have done so much better. Peter Molyneux is a man capable of such awesome achievements. Theme Park, Magic Carpet, and Dungeon Keeper were all outstanding; and the original Black and White was a damn near masterpiece. With such expectations it is impossible to prepare yourself for the thoroughly average experience of Black and White 2.

Teens: Skip this frustrating and limited sequel.

Common Sense Media
6 April 2006
  • Summary: Parents need to know that this game allows players to win through either peaceful or violent methods. Battles can ensue, and players are allowed to crush, burn, and electrocute; they can also train their magical creature by hitting and slapping them. Some crude humor about defecation, a woman gives birth complete with sounds effects, etc. The game is far from historically accurate, but players will learn something about strategy.

Black & White 2

Deaf Gamers

  • Excerpt: Black & White 2, an introduction. Black & White has to be one of the most hyped games in PC game history. Long before the game was released many games magazines were singing its praises and commenting on how it was one of the best games to date. When the game finally made it to the shops it turned out to be something of an anti-climax.

Game Over Online

  • Excerpt: I seriously disliked the first Black & White – I should probably stress that right up front. For those of you who plowed through my review of it, all roughly 9 million words, you could possibly recall that my greatest complaint was that your role didn’t seem very godlike (incidentally, for those of you who didn’t have the patience to read through it all, bear in mind that I not only wrote it, but then reread it in preparation for my review of B&W2, so in effect I’ve...

Black & White 2

The Gamers Temple
13 November 2005
  • Excerpt: The original Black & White seemed to suffer from one major problem: the game became relatively unexciting and rather simple. Fortunately Black & White 2 does not suffer this problem in the slightest. In fact, B&W2 makes some significant improvements over its predecessor by delivering amazing graphics, superior gameplay, and better creature mechanics.
