BioShock 2

PC Magazine
6 October 2012
  • Conclusion: Though BioShock 2 is extremely similar to its predecessor in terms of its story, look, and feel, some crucial tweaks pierce through the familiarity and nonetheless make this a worthy addition to the series.
  • Pros: Arresting visuals. Engaging story. Solid gameplay, with minor but effective tweaks to the first BioShock's methods. Strong multiplayer mode.
  • Cons: Overly derivative of the first game, but with a less-involving story. Internet connection required for activation on PCs.

BioShock 2 (PC)

True achievements
8 June 2010
  • Conclusion: The story is as good as the previous one - and the ending is certainly improved - avoiding the previous extreme polarisation by adding neutral endings which draw on moral choices other than the little sisters (of which there are several - but no spoilers here) The multiplayer is functional, yet unremarkable. A kind of knock off CoD where you level up by earning ADAM (read: XP) to unlock new weapons and plasmids with which you create your loadouts.

Blurring the Line: Bioshock 2 – Staff Review

RandomNPC
7 March 2010
  • Excerpt: If you played it to completion, the safe money says you’re not forgetting Bioshock anytime soon. 2K’s recent entry into the hybrid role-playing/shooter genre is sometimes a victim of its own hype, but it never lacks for imagination and proves a fun, engaging journey all the same. Bioshock 2 brings us back to the crumbling city of Rapture, evolving the gameplay in all the right places.

Review: Bioshock 2 (PC)

Aeropause
23 February 2010
  • Excerpt: It is a difficult task to create a sequel that can live up the last entry in the series, and even more so when that game is held to such high regard as Bioshock.

BioShock 2

Auracore MediaWorks
22 February 2010
  • Summary: Living under the pressure of the underwater original can be suffocating.
  • Pros: Core BioShock gameplay remains compelling and fun; lots of minor tweaks that improve the gameplay in subtle ways; very atmospheric with great presentation; excellent art design and graphics; multiplayer is fun; loads of plasmids and weapon/ammo variants make BioShock 2 a thinking gamer's shooter; very fast paced action.
  • Cons: Far more linear and repetitive than the first game was; story isn't nearly as interesting this time around and is hard to follow; the game plays it way too safe and takes zero risks; choices feel meaningless; a few minor visual glitches.

Break it Down
12 February 2010
  • Excerpt: Summary [8 out of 10] True-to-form I ran through BioShock 1 for the first time in preparation for BioShock 2, and last night I finally wrapped up BioShock 2 (fighting through the keybinding bugs on the PC) and found it to be an excellent continuation of the BioShock story , feeling very much like the first one in all the right ways with a few enhancements that were very welcomed.

BioShock 2 Review

PlayStation Universe
11 February 2010
  • Summary: BioShock 2 is a worthy follow-up to the critically acclaimed odyssey in Rapture. While there is only a modest amount of updates, the game stands well on its own through a new and exciting story, online multiplayer, and tremendous presentation.
  • Pros: How the story is presented through audio diaries, spray-painted messages, and flashbacks, The still intriguing world of Rapture, The new and exciting multiplayer
  • Cons: Some of the missions are repetitive, While the story is told well, it is not quite as captivating and interesting as the first game

Another Rapturous occasion?

Yahoo
10 February 2010
  • Conclusion: I had my doubts as to how a different studio would handle a sequel to one of the best games of this generation, but 2K Marin (which took the baton from original BioShock developer Irrational Games) has proven that Rapture's still ripe for storytelling. Sure, the wonder of experiencing Rapture for the first time is gone, and yes, the engine is really starting to show its age, but the most important element -- BioShock 2's narrative -- lives up to its heritage.
