BattleForge contains some interesting ideas. The best things about the game-play are the simplification of resource-management and the ability to keep the battle raging by spawning units anywhere near friendly ground units. The game looks fabulous and much of the enjoyment comes from having such a wide array of creative and custom-made units at your fingertips. BattleForge is a unique title that stands on its own as a quality game, but not without its faults. It is a solid effort from EA to try and mix these two gaming genres, but the points system for buying additional cards after already having paid full price for the game will really turn some fans away. It is, however, not unlike MMOs who provide content on a regular basis and charge a monthly fee, so it really is a toss up. Some will love this game and others will hate it. Read more

This deck has too many colors, but is still fine for smaller battles. There is something primitive about BattleForge . The collectible-card mechanic aside, no other recent real-time strategy game has been so reductionist in its design. You collect resources -- almost mindlessly -- and then you spend those resources on an army to kill the other guy. There is no real economy, or tactical nuance, or bothering with marching your soldiers from the barracks to the front. Read more
