Summary: I'm a fairly expert BF1942 player and was highly anticipating BFV. After putting in 15+ hours in multiplayer (the only real way to play this game - single player is still a joke) I have found myself disappointed and discouraged. First, the Goods. Graphics and character animations are excellent, the sound is amazing, and the atmosphere is spot on.
Summary: I loved BF1942. Just could not get enough of it. So I was looking forward to BF Vietnam. Unfortunately, the game has been a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong. This is a solid game. Just not what one would expect from the franchise. Here's why I do not like it. For one, the game too often leaves you guessing at what happened. In BF1942, one often got killed in surprising ways as well. But here, at times it seems to be impossible to even spawn.
Summary: Yup, that's what it feels like when I play this game. I've logged hundreds of hours in BF1942 and Desert Combat and I would say I could hold my own in any vehicle and on foot. I preoreded this game directly from EA's website, I was so hyped about this game...I downloaded all the trailers, watched them over and over and told my self "I can't wait"...I mean c'mon now you can't ignore the hype...EA did a good job hyping me up. So why the low score in Vietnam BF1942?
Summary: Another big fan of BF1942 and mods is perplexed by the unfinished release. P4 2.8 GHz GeForce 4600 Ti 128 MB (ASUS) 512MB DDR 2700 RAM Intel 845 PE chipset M/B (ASUS) SB Audigy Windows XP My problems are these: a) Sound is extremely buggy. Surround doesn't work properly. Some vehicles and actions are silent (eg. can't hear tanks sometimes) and some sounds keep going after the action is finished. EAX causes lag until you change the soundbuffer variable in config file.
Excerpt: The Battlefield series has certainly been a pioneer in this field, and anyone who's a fan of it, especially the newer Modern Combat game, should definitely check this game out, even if it's just out of curiousity and appreciation for the franchise. Although not everyone's cup of tea, Vietnam war-based shooters are arguably an under-developed market, especically in comparison with World War II shooters.
Excerpt: Being a fan of the Vietnam war genre I bought this game expecting the frenzy of a firefight in the jungle and being able to pit my wits against the enemy online. I wasn't disappointed - the game is great. I have spent many hours online, fighting against others, developing allegiances and rivalries with others.
Pros: Easy player control system; Online multiplayer (64 palyers); Many servers to play on .
Cons: Occasional server lag; Difficult to control Planes / helicopters
Excerpt: ---------------------------------- When battlefield 1942 came out the world bowed at its feet. It had the right balance between realism and enjoyment. Then when the game and all its expansions were about to be extinguished EA and DICE made a frantic push to maintain customers with battlefield Vietnam. ---------------------------------- What is the game? Before I ramble on I think i ought to explain what the game is for people with no battlefield experience.
Pros: Keeps the battlefield series going . New ideas
Excerpt: This game is a stand alone version of Battlefield: 1942 so it doesn't require that you have the original version to play it. I particularly didn't like this product that much as it is COMPLETELY the same as the original game 'Battlefield: 1942' the only difference is different location, time, weapons, but overall its the exact same game with replaced looks so instead of Germans you have Vietnamese soldiers.
Pros: Another fun game that can hold up to 64 players online
Cons: It is exactly a duplicate of the original battlefield game
Summary: Having already reviewed this game earlier, this is an update. I recently downloaded the second patch for this game, and there wasnt any change. So I deleted this game completely from my system (this is another story because when I tried to reload the game, the option to install wouldn't hi-lite. What a nightmare) and reloaded the patch. It definitley played alot better.
Summary: I have been a huge Electronic Arts fan for years, and my gaming collection includes a vast amount of their products including NFS: Underground (5 stars), NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 (3 stars), NFS: Porsche Unleashed (5 stars), Battlefield 1942 (5 stars), and, now, Battlefield Vietnam. My opinion of Battlefield 1942 can be read by clicking on my name above this review -- you can see how highly I thought of that game in comparison to this one!
