Gameguru Mania
25 April 2003
  • Excerpt: B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th is a very new and very slick looking WWII bomber simulation developed by Wayward Design/Rage and published by Hasbro Interactive/Microprose. It's actually a sequel to Micropose's original B-17 simulation title that was released more than eight years ago (B17 was released by Microprose in 1992 for the Amiga and PC). The game features the P-38J Lightning, P-47D Thunderbolt, the P-51D Mustang for the Allies.

B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th

Strategy Informer

  • Excerpt: One of the most interesting aspects of the air war in world war two was the heavy bomber offensive against Germany carried out by the United States 8th Air Force. In just under three years, this force grew from a few dozens planes into a weapon of tremendous distructive ability, and played a huge part in crippling the German Luftwaffe, as well as Germany's industrial ability.

  • Excerpt: The latest (last?) flight simulator from Microprose, B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th, is an ambitious title that takes a virtual pilot to the skies over World War II Europe in the workhorse bomber of the U.S. Army Air Corps. The sim provides a gamer with the chance to fill the shoes of any one of the 10 crew positions, including pilot, navigator, bombardier, radio operator, and various gunners.

  • Excerpt: As any war or history buff will tell you--as anyone who's seen the movie "Memphis Belle" knows--the B-17 Flying Fortress was anything but. Flying Deathtrap, perhaps; Fortress of Flak Magnets, maybe, but do you really want to fly one? Sure! In a computer game, anyway.

B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th
