Excerpt: Oddly enough, Awesomenauts is my first MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game. It's just as well, too: it's a charming and accessible game that easy to pick up and difficult to put down. It may not have any staying power for those who don't like to play online, but those who do are in for a treat. Awesomenauts has a soft, cartoony feel to it. The colors are never harsh, but they find their own little ways to stand out.
Conclusion: Despite the slightly steep learning curve, once you get into the game, Awesomenauts is a heap of fun to play. The visual style complements the fun aspect perfectly with the 2D platform and crazy cartoon characters making the game seem a throwback to the days when all games were designed for fun rather than ultra-realism. And if you have a couple of friends to make a team, then you’ll probably have even more fun.
Summary: There are great times to be had with Awesomenauts for somebody of the right disposition; someone who is patient enough to weather a brutal introductory period and underwhelming combat. Awesomenauts is still a solid MOBA here with heaps of charm, but I'm afraid that it still isn't a game for me.
Pros: Balanced cast of outlandish characters, Smooth, cartoon-inspired visuals, Improved precision over console versions
Cons: Combat lacks depth, Demands teamwork, unkind toward solo play
Conclusion: Unfortunately, not all of the characters are available up front, which means you need to level up your profile through matches with characters you might not like in the meantime. You can level up in offline practice modes (the only single-player option because there is no campaign mode), but playing against the not-so-smart AI doesn't come close to playing against real people with real strategies.
Pros: Ridiculous Saturday-morning cartoon characters and presentation, Deep customization options for individuals and teams, Well-balanced, visually diverse characters.
Cons: Could use some more tutorials for genre newbies.
Summary: Multiplayer online battle arena, or MOBA, is a genre of games packed with some heavy hitters in the PC space. Whether it's a legacy game like Dota (or Dota 2) or the ever-expanding League of Legends, there's one thing most MOBAs have in common: an absurdly steep learning curve. Expertise in some MOBAs isn't measured in hours, but in months. It's not exactly a pick-up-and-play genre.
Pros: Ridiculous Saturday-morning cartoon characters and presentation, Deep customization options for individuals and teams, Well-balanced, visually diverse characters
Cons: Could use some more tutorials for genre newbies
Summary: Het Nederlandse Ronimo Games kennen we natuurlijk allemaal van de 2D-strategiegame Swords & Soldiers.
