Attack on Pearl Harbor probably carries the distinction of being the only game to be named after its first level. The game actually spans the entire Pacific Theater conflict of World War II, and can be played from both the American and Japanese perspective. Hopefully, Attack on Pearl Harbor won’t go unnoticed by its target audience, who’ll gleam far more enjoyment from this game than they would ever rightly expect. Likewise, should the title be explored by the WWII and flight sim enthusiasts, its review scores are likely to plummet due to unnecessary, yet anticipated, genre conflict. Read more

The size of maps and the scope of the missions feels right on; the player has plenty of room to maneuver without (sorry, IL-2) endless climbs or long slogs from waypoint to waypoint. The two historical campaigns (technically four – two at the beginning and two at the end of the Pacific war) are fun, if a little brief and arranged in a confusing, dynamic system where successful missions result in experience, medals and new planes, and failed missions means not receiving... That’s not to say there aren’t exceptions - Secret Weapons Over Normandy , released in 2003, offered a brief but thrilling slice of arcade WWII flight action, and Microsoft’s Crimson Skies , released in 2000. While the attack on Pearl Harbor is certainly set in our memories and history books, it’s the multiple contributions of pop culture that have continued to fuel the infamy.
