  • Summary: It is the best military shooter ever made, maybe i'll install it once again to remember the good old days, the new Arma games are great to, but this one was the base for those games.

  • Summary: This is one of the most realistic games I have ever seen and its a very good looking game as well there's so much user made content its insane. Most people buy this game just because of the many mods and one famous mod is DayZ that is A-mazing.

ArmA: Not for Kids

Matthew C., Newegg
23 July 2009
  • Summary: Helicopters are probably more realistically flight-modeled in this game than in other first person shooters, so they will take practice. The view out of the cockpit is amazing, though! Also supports TrackIR, which allows you to control your point of view by moving your head.
  • Pros: Despite what many people claim, this game actually runs fairly well on a not-too-modest machine. I was running with a view distance of 2.5km at high detail when I had an Athlon 64 3200+ and a GeForce 7800GT. This is a DX9.0c game so you don't need the latest series of card to run it. There is no ...
  • Cons: Does require a fair amount of patience to get comfortable with. Voice commands are issued one at a time and must play fully before the next one is issued, which can be sometimes frustrating when you are trying to tell your gunner to fire. Missions can sometimes feel unfair, but as others have poi...

  • Summary: There are WAY too many controls. I'd say there are at least 3 functions to a key, and they are awkwardly positioned, so much so that you'd have to have 3 hands to run and go prone and track a moving target when it only takes the 2 you have in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield.

umm.. hello?

Jared J., Newegg
3 June 2009
  • Summary: There are really cool things you can do to the game, like i said. As far as downloading things and throwing them into your game, there are some total replacement packs out there for arma. The most popular of those is the ACE(advanced combat experience) mod.
  • Pros: This is the best game ever. Im going to try n make my comments about it short. Ive been playing arma for abt 2 years. It will engulf your life. If you are into realism, this game is second to none. If your five years old and like just running and shooting, go find another game. Some of the people...
  • Cons: yes, the game has a few problems. The first- you need a REALLY good computer to run it. Second- you need to download and install all patches for it. Finally- some of the character animations are a little.. unrealistic. But thats not the focus of this game.

Best Combat Simulation

Timothy W., Newegg
20 May 2009
  • Summary: A solid step in the right direction from OFP. I just hope Arma II continues the positive trend.
  • Pros: The biggest pro of this game is the in-game mission editor. Even if you do not have the slightest idea of how to mod something or make a map, get in the editor and play around. You are not building a map or creating a vehicle, you are creating (and playing immediately) a new scenario limited only...
  • Cons: No mortor teams, no SAM units, no realistic artillery system, no easy to use a flare trap and there really is no suppresion under fire still.

Easily the best tactical combat game available today

Gary S., Newegg
14 May 2009
  • Summary: Arma is only intended for tactical players who prefer more realistic combat than other games can provide. As such, you'll either love it or hate it depending on the type of combat you prefer. The vanilla game by itself is only shadow of what is possible in terms of gameplay.
  • Pros: Almost too many to list. If you can think of it, you can probably do it in Arma. A fully articulated scripting language means that modders have created functionality that other games can only dream of. Graphics in the game, for the most part, are stunning - often photo-realistic. Patch 1.14 provi...
  • Cons: Don't bother with the single-player...please! AI could be improved (like any other game) Not good for close quarters combat...at all Not native Vista-compatible but many people have no trouble running Arma in Vista (see forums) No native support for SLI/Crossfire but again, people are doing it (s...

User Review

Derek H., Newegg
12 May 2009
  • Summary: Someone earlier said the graphics are "horrible" on his quad core supercomputer. Well I am only running an Intel Core 2 at 3.5ghz with an 8800GTX (overclocked, but still on stock cooling) and 2gb of ram and I can run the game with a 1680x1050 resolution with all graphics options at their highest and...
  • Pros: Fun game, great graphics, great simulation and a large community dedicated to modding/adding content (makes for some really awesome additions). Making your own missions is easy but the tool is also powerful, allowing for scripting and such.
  • Cons: It's a simulation so you can't get shot a hundred times and still be walking (could be a con for some people). The game by itself wouldn't be worth 5 eggs if it didn't have the modding community it has - it's those additions that make the game the really awesome game it is.

Awesome game

Scott H., Newegg
17 April 2009
  • Summary: My specs: EVGA 790I, Q9450 OC 3.6, 2GB DDR3 1600, EVGA 260GTX, 2 WD Raptors in RAID-0, Vista Ultimate 32. Cant wait for ARMA2.
  • Pros: Open ended game play, there are hundreds of addons and you can make your own as well. Graphics look great not awesome, however ARMA 2 will be out soon!!! Lots of mission possiblites on the huge islands.
  • Cons: It takes time and practice to learn how to use the editor. It can be buggy for example helicopters have problems getting over and through the mountains when they are AI controlled. My complaint: people who listed this game as being poor and said that this game sucks, go by BF2. This is a simulati...
