Anno 1404 Gold Edition Review

Fred E. Dorey, Amazon
15 July 2014
  • Summary: I was able to get Anno 1404 to install without an Internet link. But the upgrade needed internet to install. Really lacks a comprehensive manual for the finer points, like setting up a trade route for excess production, to recoup maintenance costs of manufacturing. And trying to keep all the citizens happy when you don't have spice production and keep the nobility happy without beer is a problem.

Great game but technical fiddling is required.

  • Summary: I enjoy city builders, and I had the rest of the anno series except for this one and Anno 2070. I put this off as I heard it was very similar to 1703, but this included the add-on and was such a great deal that I couldn't resist! The gameplay has been described elsewhere - economic simulation that allows you to micromanage resources and build large and interesting medieval cities.

Learning Curve Waaayy Too Steep

jaycee "jaycee_jm", Amazon

  • Summary: I am a Sim City Fan and when I bought a new laptop with Win 7 the Deluxe Edition could no longer install it. I decided to hunt down another game and really fell in love for the first week of trying out this game. Awesome graphics, loved the era it is set in and pretty much the whole set up BUT BUT BUT unlike Sim City, it came with absolutely no manual and a much more complex learning curve.

Highly addictive, but wears out fast.

Patricia Gray, Amazon

  • Summary: This game is one that I return to time and time again, but never for very long at a time. The game play gets old - there really is only so much you can do, but the open ended-ness of the game allows it to be just different enough each time to hold your interest and keep you coming back for more. Playing through the missions is fun and challenging, and being able to play with friends is also a great way to keep things interesting.

Mercantilism of the late middle Ages at its finest

J. M. Muller, Amazon
8 November 2012
  • Summary: This game is cool as hell. I was tired of rts games that are centrally about building a war machine and smiting your foes. Even though this can very well happen and is an option. I liked that its focus on making trade networks in order to get wealthy and supply the different islands you have with the things your missing.

1401 AD Gold Edition

Dukejitsu, Amazon
4 October 2012
  • Summary: I find it very similar to 1701 AD but with a few upgrades and a few unlikely changes. I enjoy this type of game and would like to see the graphics improve a bit, but all in all, I do really enjoy it.

A good value with hours of fun gameplay, but it does get old

Kristin, Amazon
20 May 2012
  • Summary: I got this game almost as an impulse buy because it was so cheap. I think I paid like $7 for it. I definately got my money's worth out of it too, I probably played for 100-150 hours doing the primary mission and half (3) of the challenges. It does get a little repetative after a while regardless of which challenge you're doing. Same idea each time, you build up your city, expand your product trees, etc.

Good game but can get a little boring

bluevision10s, Amazon
8 May 2012
  • Summary: I think this game is good. (I'm still playing it) It's not quite a city builder or rts but more of a hybrid. The goal is to advance your population level by fulfilling the peoples needs, which involves creating trade routes, managing resources and dealing with diplomacy. There is fighting in this game but its not the main focus its mostly about fulfilling the people's needs.

A pleasant game

Christopher Larkin, Amazon
21 January 2010
  • Summary: This is my first and only experience in the Anno series of games. I am glad I found this game. ANNO 1404 contains a beautiful setting, lovely music and memorable NPC's. The campaign was really enjoyable and never was boring even though the story was kind of predictable. At latter stages of the game it will really put your logistical aptitude to the test.

Set sail for one of the greatest games of all time!

jackal248..., Ciao
9 January 2011
  • Excerpt: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ INTRODUCTION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Ever since I upgraded the graphics card in my Packard Bell computer, I've been able to test and play games that my old graphics card would have coughed at, spluttered at and then died before playing. With Crysis, I could stealth my way through the jungle firing at Koreans. With GTA IV I could race away from cops while firing wildly from my car window.
  • Pros: Incredibly fun, beautiful, cheap, an unforgettable experience
  • Cons: It will eat up your social life !  !  !
