Summary: I have always loved the anno series. Wanted to give this game a try since I bought 1701 a long time ago. Fully expected it to be a downgrade since it was an older game compared to 1701 but it was surprisingly unique! Hers how it breaks down. If you love strategy country building games I recommend getting one of these games in the anno series. Secondly, I'm amazed at the difference between the two.
Summary: I am running a Win7 64 OS, fully patched to current updates. The program doesn't install without errors. I interpret the error messages as corrupted content on the disc. I clicked ignore and expected I could download a patch to correct it. After all, this is a "mature" release now and Ubisoft should have remedied all the issues. Sure enough, the install went to Ubisoft and downloaded two patches. However, neither of them fully installed either.
Summary: I was able to get Anno 1404 to install without an Internet link. But the upgrade needed internet to install. Really lacks a comprehensive manual for the finer points, like setting up a trade route for excess production, to recoup maintenance costs of manufacturing. And trying to keep all the citizens happy when you don't have spice production and keep the nobility happy without beer is a problem.
Summary: NOT PLAYABLE ON WINDOWS 7, files NECESSARY to play NOT INCLUDED on CD, in order to play you must download alternate uncorrupted files (WHICH ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE) and edit them to make the game playable. DO NOT BUY as it will NOT work on anything Windows 7 or later. Ubisoft has completely abandoned this series with NO SUPPORT for it anymore. THIS IS THE GAME I WILL EVER PURCHASE FROM UBISOFT.
Summary: I have all the Anno games and have enjoyed them all. Anno 1404 is just, if not more, challenging than the others. If you like building, feeding, fighting and all the things that make up using the "little gray cells" than this is a game you should try.
