Pros: The game isn't as bad as most people say it is. Perhaps it is on the console version bad the pc. edition benefited from some pretty hefty updates and patches. As its stands its worth it at an under $20 price point. It will never be what is was meant to be but serious fan will find just enough to like.
Cons: The graphics and game play feel several years out of date. Enemy A.I. has been improved but is still not on par with the level of quality that is expected in modern AAA games. Same goes for graphics.
Summary: So upon first impressions, this game is ok. So far the single player is ok. A bit of a strech storyline wise but fine. I had very high hopes for multiplayer to be a pseudo Left 4 Dead Aliens style. Massive hordes of aliens, 4 marines start here end there and you just have to survive. It even seems like it would have been perfect L4D clone...4 classes of aliens: normal = zombie, lurker = jockey, spitter and tank. is it too much to ask for them to redo multiplayer?
Summary: The co-op in this game is fun, it has approximatly 6 hours of playtime. The graphics are definatly lacking. Horrible textures were used and it makes for a very unconvincing aliens game. The stroyline is fairly good and the sound is okay. My friend and I found that we were fighing human npc's more than actual aliens. So overall this was somewhat a dissapointment.
Summary: As an avid fan of the Alien universe I have seen all the movies and played most of the games both on PC and consoles over the years. I ensured that I watched all the pre release tech demos, video and press presentations by Gearbox CEO (Randy Pitchford) for the game. At the prospect of Alien Colonial Marines release I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation.
Summary: This is a game I would not recomend anyone to buy, it is full of bugs and glitches and even games from 2005 look better than this one. The single player lacks in everything, a whole lot of the time you will get stuck because of one your team mates will glitch and get stuck somewhere or the objective alien gets pushed through a wall or door. However, the game still allows you to enjoy yourself.
Summary: I am an avid fan of the series, having watched the movies repeatedly over and over again, however Aliens: Colonial Marines does not offer that much. The game has got a lot of re-playability in it due to the leveling and upgrade system, and also the sound effects are spot on. Visually, it is nothing special due to the old engine. I have played it both co-op and single player - it is fun, and as long as the game is fun I will not bash it.
Summary: After all that was said about Aliens: Colonial Marines, I was pretty anxious when I installed it, and my first minutes playing it made me say that it is really bad. It's graphically out-dated, with dumb AI. The scripts are everywhere. I was really disappointed. The story doesn't even give a good sequel to the movie. But something made me stay, despite all these mistakes. It is really the same atmosphere as Aliens, the second movie in the Alien saga.
