Players are also required to solve a mystery involving a vanishing tribe and pit oneself against other notorious swashbucklers. Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships immerses players in battles in the high seas through three different characters to choose from. Each one has a separate storyline and class. This includes: a Merchant, Corsair or an Adventurer. The game involves developing seven main attributes in order to succeed. These attributes, called the “P.I.R.A.T.E.S.” role-playing system include Power, Impression, Reaction, Authority, Talent, Endurance and Success (each attribute contributes its first letter to the “P.I.R.A.T.E.S.” acronym). The player also has a choice of ships to choose from, such as Barque, Battleship, Brig, Caravel, Corvette, Fluyt, Frigate, Lugger, Man of War, Shooner, Sloop and Tartane. The game features ship-to-ship combat or close quarter combat with characters that make up the fiercest swordsmen in the Caribbean. Close quarter combat includes fighting when boarding another ship and fighting a captain one-on-one. Player can also walk around and explore the game, gathering sailors and supplies. The game also allows users to speed up travel time while sailing a ship on the map, or sail in real time. There are four main campaigns with over 40 quests, with each quest generated to allow additional infinite amount of quests. Age of Pirates 2 also features new combat system for faster fights, 3 weapon classes to choose: light, medium and heavy; advanced trading system, interaction with real-life historical characters such as Jamaican governors Colonel Thomas Lynch and Thomas Modyford; and maps of the Caribbean with an array of land-based locations, such as the South American jungle to Caribbean cave complexes.
