Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs

Fragland
26 June 2012

Eternal Gaming Network
9 October 2009
  • Excerpt: Right to the meat, we all know the Age of Empires series is by Ensemble Studios a Microsoft games studio division, we all also know that "WarChiefs" is an expansion pack to Age of Empires III. What does it add to the game you ask you said right to the meat? In truth in true form with Ensemble Studios "WarChiefs" adds elements to the game that may well should have been part of the original game to begin with.
  • Pros: Graphics, gameplay, voice acting, hmm hard to pick the best parts of the game, this is a great strategy title.
  • Cons: There really are few and far between but alas the single player game is too short.

Mass Effect

GAMESQUAD
31 December 2007
  • Conclusion: High expectations put aside, Mass Effect is a good game worth experiencing. But Mass Effect is a game better experienced than it is played.
  • Pros: A story of such breadth could not have been accomplished in any other medium; beautiful presentation; some games hint at a vast universe, this games gives all of it to you; phenomenally unique and excellent soundtrack; the decisions you make will actually make you feel something.
  • Cons: Often terrible combat; glitches too numerous to enumerate; constantly stuttering framerate; almost identical structure to KOTOR; god-awful voice actor for the male Sheppard.

Age of Empires III

PC Magazine
27 November 2007
  • Excerpt: In Version 3 of the real-time strategy classic, you try to take control of the New World playing as one of eight "civilizations," each of which possesses unique "units" (equipment and personnel, for example). Game play is easy to pick up but hard to master. The best reason to check this game out is its stunning visual detail, from the subtle lighting effects of the cityscapes to the flotsam flying through the air after cannon fire.

Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs

Inside Mac Games
20 July 2007
  • Excerpt: I had previously mentioned sweeping game mechanics changes often included in expansions. The WarChiefs has some, some sweeping, some not. Most dramatic is the inclusion of being a Revolutionary nation, rather than just a vassal state of a home nation in Europe. Does any of this sound familiar? In Age of Empires III, at a certain point and when certain wickets are met, you head your civilization into the Imperial age.

Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs

Auracore MediaWorks
26 February 2007
  • Summary: Finally puts an end to the AOE expansion curse.
  • Pros: Very nice and varied artistic elements; crisp graphics and neat effects; audio is adequate (much the same as Age of Empires III); adds a whole new dimension to an already excellent game.
  • Cons: Cut-scenes are a little laggy; graphics can be taxing on performance; hot keys have been annoyingly remapped.

Eternal Gaming Network
3 February 2007
  • Excerpt: These statements may lead some to believe Ensemble Studios leaves there games incomplete to make extra money with expansion packs, but the fact is there expansion packs feel like part of the game. What this means the expansion pack doesn't feel like the Expansion packs of old that feel "slapped" on top of the game but a real part of the game.
  • Pros: Graphics, gameplay, voice acting, hmm hard to pick the best parts of the game, this is a great strategy title.
  • Cons: There really are few and far between but alas the single player game is too short.

Age of Empires III: The Warchiefs

GAMESQUAD
25 November 2006
  • Conclusion: While there’s nothing really revolutionary here, Age of Empires III: The Warchiefs is a solid expansion to an already excellent series. Gameplay remains pretty much unchanged, but the inclusion of the Native American tribes offers some interesting new opportunities and challenges—enough that veteran players may be forced to update their strategies. Fans of the series won’t want to miss this one.
  • Pros: New factions add great value; nice printed manual; new units; warchief.
  • Cons: Little innovation in resource gathering; Iroquois feel like a European faction.
