AOE III (Gold Edition)

C. CAIAZZA "Softail", Amazon
24 December 2012
  • Summary: Call me old fashioned, but I like the original AOE much better than this version. I can't stand the graphics and the way the screen moves around. It feels like you are looking at everything at an angle. I'm sure the gameplay is good, I just don't like the graphics. I will be selling this back on Amazon shortly. Honestly gave this 20 mins of play, so maybe not the most thourough of ratings.

Worse Than AOE I & II

sky2600, Ebay
2 March 2008
  • Summary: Graphics are poor. Battle scenes invoving cannons and ships cause system lock up, even on my brand new lap top. One would expect beete inteface with the Windows from a game made by Microsoft!

Don't Believe the Listed System Requirements

Nigel Dogue, Amazon
15 January 2006
  • Summary: My system meets the nearly invisible system requirements microscopicly printed on the box but it still would not install because it detected an "unsupported video card." Turns out the README file contains a huge list of video cards they already know won't work but of course you can't see that list until you open the box.

Buggy, Buggy, Buggy! Unplayable

KJ, Amazon
1 December 2005
  • Summary: Be warned before you purchase this game as there numerous bugs and technical issues. A huge majority of the playerbase have had technical issues you can read about at the AoE3 official website forums. There is a patch expected, but it has not yet been released. The game is plagued with lock ups, sound issues, mouse freezing, online gaming troubles, and even installation troubles.

  • Summary: First, I would like to point out that I was never able to actually play this game, thereby accounting for my rather poor rating. That being said, PLEASE do yourself a favor if you're thinking of purchasing this game - download the demo from [...]. --------------------------------------------------------------- Upon purchasing this game and downloading the update, (1.01 as of the time of this review), I came home to a rather horrific surprise.

"Dull"

Jonathan, Mighty Ape
19 December 2006
  • Summary: Thought I'd try to counterbalance the enthusiasm of others. I played AOEI – great, AOE2 – above average and AOM – just wonderful and I play it still. AOE3 seems to be too “politically correct”. So the graphics are good. So the game ic sort of cute. Why is it set in the “New World”? Face the fact: most warfare is in Europe. So the answer has to be – to sell it to the US audience. Very nice and very laudable but totally transparent.

not playable

Deyi, Amazon
20 April 2006
  • Summary: I am using WINDOWS XP, and my machine has 4.2GHz speed. I must rank this 1 star because it is just not playable, the loading speed, saving speed, is way BEYOND standard. I have never noticed such problem in I and II...and I have played through the whole series. The improved graphic has problem. the tree leaves are torned in my computer, no matter what setting I try. I'd rather play age of Empire I or II... if every saving and loading takes you more than 2 min...
