  • Summary: I have had occasion to look at a few new point-and-click adventure games over the last couple of years which, while not a large number, has certainly been a sufficient quantity for me to develop a list of likes and dislikes in the genre.

  • Conclusion: In the end, Tesla Effect doesn’t reinvent the wheel, nor does it aim to. What it does attempt – and successfully accomplishes – is to mark the comeback of a beloved adventure gaming icon, and to do so in a way familiar to legions of fans.

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure

IGN
7 May 2014
  • Conclusion: Just as its noir-inspired detective Tex Murphy is a “man out of time,” Tesla Effect is indeed a game out of time. Every aspect -- from the humor to the puzzles to the live action cutscenes -- feels beamed here straight from the ‘90s. Sometimes it’s charming, and others, it’s just dated.
  • Pros: Campy dad humor, Classic adventure gaming, Likeable protagonist
  • Cons: Dated feel, Flawed dialogue system
