Hard HO action

Game Debate
7 June 2012
  • Excerpt: The geniuses behind those classic Tex Murphy adventures made the leap to Hidden Object (HO) games a few years back, and 3 Cards To Midnight was the result. Actually, to call this a HO game is kind of a fallacy – the objects are all in clear sight, and you aren’t given a list of stuff to find as usual. Instead, you’re dealt a number of ‘hot words’, and the trick is to work out which items can be linked to them.
  • Pros: Intriguing plot, Original twist on HO
  • Cons: Hideously tough, Mediocre graphics

  • Conclusion: All in all, it took me almost seven hours to reach the epilogue, and it was a wonderful journey aside from a little repetitiveness during the word association phases. In this regard, there is certainly room for improvement: with just a little more variety these segments would be even more entertaining, and as the planned series progresses, I really hope to see a wider assortment of mechanics used.

3 Cards to Midnight

9 September 2009
