Summary: My friend's son mentioned that this joystick looked like the one for his right hand when he took the test from the Navy. Since he never had any experience with this kind of joystick, he failed the test. That's the reason I gave him as a gift. Amazon sells identical one, but they are away expensive. Hope he can pass next test.
Summary: I am very happy with CH's Combatstick. Having been a Logitech 3D Extreme Joystick user for years (until they stopped supporting the Profiler for Windows7), but became completley disatisfied with their shoddy parts and poor product support. It is the only joystick that truly allows you to re-assign functions to its buttons and switches.
Summary: This is the best joystick I've ever laid my hands on-- it's incredibly smooth, very precise even for subtle inputs, the buttons feel perfectly responsive (almost mechanical?), but coming from a background of cheaper joysticks, I found it difficult to go without a Z-axis (twist/rudder). While using this joystick, I was constantly trying to twist it which just ended up hurting my wrist after a short period.
Summary: Just got the Combatstick and have used it a couple of hours with X-Plane. First of all, I'm not a gamer, rather a Private Pilot building an experimental aircraft (RV-9). I take two stars away for a variety of reasons. The first thing I noticed was that the various buttons are only that, buttons. Not even the trigger switch is a real trigger like on an aircraft control stick. The coolie hat switch doesn't move as much as a real coolie hat switch.
Summary: Initial impression is strong. I have only had this joystick for about 2 months and it works as advertised. All buttons and rollers work. I use this in conjunction with the Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals so there are plenty of control assignments. Also easy to calibrate using the included software. I still use the keyboard and mouse clicks for some assignments just to avoid memorizing too many joystick assignments.
Summary: This is the top of the line joystick for flight simulators, it has many button interfaces including a speed dial. It has set the bar that all joysticks r judge by and has the most precise internal mechinisms. Well made and designed to last for many years.
