Excerpt: My five year old Toshiba Satellite has been running hotter and hotter. I have been worried it would fail from the heat.I read the reviews on the Zalman ZM-NC3000U Notebook cooler and as it fell somewhat in the middle price range of comparable products, I decided to try it.
Pros: Easy To Install, Energy Efficient, Quiet, Reliable
Summary: I got this for my 15-inch MacBook Pro. I used it when I was rendering videos or playing games. The big fan worked so well, the OS felt it was okay to turn down the speed of my built in fans. so to get things even cooler, I used smcFanControl.
Pros: Fan is very quiet, I have had it for about 8 months now and still no noise at full speed. True, it is making some noise, but compared to the fans on my MacBook Pro... it's silent. USB hub is handy. Rubber feet on the bottom so no plastic touches the counter/desk/whatever.
Cons: The included USB cable has a small flaw, the surrounding plastic/rubber is a little too big to allow them both to be plugged in at the same time (too wide). This issue was solved with a razor blade and some whittling skills.
Summary: I have a 1st gen core i7 and an ati radeon hd 4670 in my laptop, so it can get pretty hot pretty quick. I've noticed that it keeps my laptop at least 2-3 degrees cooler under heavy load (about 70 degrees C).
Pros: 220mm fan means it can move a lot of air without making a lot of noise. Can run off of 1 USB port, but it is recommended to use two if you plan on using the built in 3 port USB hub.
Cons: Size. It is a little larger than my 15 inch laptop. not the most comfortable thing to have on your lap, but is a whole lot better than a laptop running at 80 degrees.
Summary: The fan needs to move more air. Not comfortable to use on your lap. I like the look of it and it is quiet, should be fine if you are not gaming.
Pros: Quiet. I don't hear it over my laptop cpu cooler.
Cons: Eats up a USB port. Also doesn't cool my HP dv6t enough when I play games, even ones that are not very graphically intense. Laptop shuts itself off due to high heat on occasion while on the cooler. My left hand still gets too warm for comfort while playing games. To use the port multiplyer you ne...
Cons: -Doesn't cool evenly, only in the center -Cheap plastic case -Not big enough for 17.3" laptop -Power button doesn't always toggle when pushed -No power LED -Plugging in the AC adapter feels like it's going to break the pin inside the cooler because it's so thin and flimsy -AC Adapter was not incl...
Summary: Zalman makes quality laptop coolers, and this is definitely one! I searched for days for the right cooler and finally bought this one after comparing it to tons of others. HURRY AND BUY!
Pros: *Perfect angle for the laptop! *USB hub in the back *VERY quiet! (I couldn't tell if it was actually working when i first got its so quiet! moved the laptop to see the fan spinning) *Love the design, you can feel cold air moving up from the tons of holes on the cooler *Fits my asus g53 with space!
Cons: No power supply! (For 41 dollars though I can't complain) Person rant: I woulda liked 2 140mm fans instead of one 220m, the fan has an adjustable speed, but it could be faster, but this still cools your laptop!
Summary: idle without fan on 36c idle with fan on high 35c gaming load without fan on 85c gaming load with fan on high 68c fits my asus g53sw 15.6 with 1/4" to spare on ea. side. 1"to spare front to back
Pros: quiet good angle for typing looks good well made cools well
Cons: glossy black, finger print magnet no ac adapter
Pros: This unit is completely silent. Had to put my hand on the vent to know it was on. Kicks out some pretty cool air. No noise difference raising the air flow.
Cons: It doesn't ship with a AC adapter. There is a USB cable that plugs into your notebook to serve as a power source, but it require that you have a USB slot available. Consider your USB situation before you buy this.
