Summary: I feel it was worth the money, but I believe everyone has a different perception on the real value of an item and expected working lifetime for a product.
Pros: It cooled well, had an equal distribution of air, and was built well. It worked for almost a year and a half. I game and play media on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L505) pretty often. The laptop's built-in fans turn on when the Laptop is overheating. With this cooler, the internal laptop fans rar...
Cons: Well not so much a con, but just the result It finally gave out on me at the 17-month mark. The fans would no longer work and my laptop's built-in fans started having to work recently. Time to get a new one!
Summary: Wish there were some sort of pegs or stopper strip that would keep the laptop from sliding down a bit. There are a couple of rubber strips but they're a little too shallow/thin so they aren't super effective.
Pros: Works, uses USB power, looks nice, quiet.
Cons: Only 1 USB port on back, but I guess you can't put too many as it would exceed output, so a trade off from separate power supply versus USB powered. Laptop tends to slide down a bit.
Cons: The cooler sits at an angle, say 20 degrees or so. with nothing to prevent the laptop from sliding right off of it. since it's at an angle, gravity is of course in the mix, no lip to keep the laptop sitting still when you walk away from it. So i knocked one egg off.
Summary: The 4 rating is only for the controls and legs. I am not positive the controls and folding legs on the 2000 model warrent the extra expense. Both cool well. I would buy either of these again.
Pros: My laptop would overheat while gaming. Now it stays cool to the touch, with no overheat issues at all. i dont feel any heat on the keyboard like i do without a cooler. I also have a Zalman 2000 model. This cools just as good and is cheaper.
Cons: The controls are in the back and a little inconvienent to get to when the laptop is open. The 2000 model has the controls are on the side, easier to access. The legs on this one dont fold in like the 2000 model, but I dont carry this one around so its not a problem.
Summary: I am happy with this because while it isn't perfect, the quality is great for the price I paid. My laptop isn't smoking hot, so using a low and quiet fan speed works just fine for me.
Pros: Quality of product for the price, features. The centrifugal fan design is better than regular blade fans for these coolers in my opinion. Even at low fan speeds, it cooled off my laptop fairly well.
Cons: Feet design means this is primarily intended for use on a desk. The fan design makes it possible to use on your lap, but it probably wouldn't be too comfortable unless you had it sitting on top of a tray or pillow. Also, the fan is a bit noisy unless it's turned almost all the way down.
Summary: The aluminum design is great at dispersing heat, but the fan positions don't line up with the position of the air intake on my Toshiba laptop without some repositioning. While this may not be a case for most, I feel expanding the vents on the device would help a lot. Overall, 4/5 eggs.
Pros: Good design, fits my 17" laptop nicely. Super quiet! It's on the highest setting and I'm not hearing it at all!
Cons: Even on the highest setting, I'm only seeing about a 6 degree drop. While this is enough to keep my processor at a safe level, I was hoping for more dramatic results.
