Summary: I bought this cooler specifically because of the reviews touting it as quiet. I'm not sure if I got a lemon or what, because it's *not* quiet. There's a very audible high-pitched whine that is annoying at low speed and essentially intolerable at high speed.
Pros: Good angle for viewing Controls are reasonably laid out
Pros: Fits 15.6 laptop quite well. Pretty sturdy. Not too heavy
Cons: It doesn't really cool my laptop. I have an HP dv5. I have to sit the laptop overhanging the front edge for it to be effective at all. I don't know how many times my laptop has shut off from overheating while on the cooler. It has spots for 3 fans but only two are filled. I guess I just expected ...
Summary: Overall I find it very overpriced for what you get. I would recommend just getting a cooler that is the 20 dollar range- which every other cooler seems to be.. not sure why this one is so much more because there really does not seem to be anything special about it.
Cons: The fans are in the front of this cooler and a huge space in the back that has no air coming out for cooling. It does not really seem to cool my machine like I am needing. I also found it to be louder than the current cooler I have that was half the cost.
Summary: I considered RMA'ing the cooler for a second time after the noise problems started up again but at this point I'd rather have a noisy cooler than have to wait for another RMA replacement to be shipped to me.
Pros: Keeps my laptop that would get uncomfortably hot from even needing to turn on its on board fan.
Cons: For a cooler that calls itself ultra quiet mine has had a lot of noise problems. Out of the box the cooler made noises beyond normal fan noise at all speeds. This ranged from rattling to buzzing and generally sounded like an old case fan whose bearings were going out. I sent the cooler back via N...
Summary: My solution was to stop using the laptop on my desk and instead place it on my lap. With the cooler, it works quite well. The cooler also seems to work a bit better when you don't place it on a surface, because it has better airflow.
Pros: Cools laptop by around 10C.
Cons: This cannot be used on a desk or table, because it raises the laptop too high and the angle is uncomfortable. For a while, I thought it was giving me carpal tunnel and it probably would have if I had not stopped using it there.
Summary: While this product appears built to last and is quiet at fans maxed at 1500rpm, it fails to noticeably reduce my cpu temps of my Macbook. My theory is in part due to the posiition of the vents near the bottom of the Zalman combined with an underwhelming 1500rpm.
Pros: Quiet + Sturdy Material
Cons: Inefficient Cooling Fans & Lack of External Power Supply Option
