Can't use it

Stephen C., Newegg
22 October 2015
  • Summary: Zalman's China manufacturing site need better 'QC' as their end products (too me in any case) and to the average customer I assume is bad right now. Four (4) email to them and zero response. These were for various problems and they promise to respond within 2 days...doesn't happen folks.
  • Pros: None at this point
  • Cons: Make effort to install...will not fit AMD boards. My MSI A88x G45 Gamer board is to much for the cooler and/or the supplied hardware. There is a 10mm gap between the mounting screws and their nut. Far, far to big a gap. Zalman knows of this as I've seen countless comments about this issue.

Destroyed CPU

Allen G., Newegg
16 October 2015
  • Summary: I have an older system. Running a 1st gen I5 2500k Socket 1155. This cooler says it is compatible. It isn't.
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: So, where do I begin? I did read the reviews and saw all the red flags about the trouble people had with the cooler and I should have listened. But, I have bought one of these in the past and had no issues, so I thought I would risk it. Well, if you couldn't tell by the title, things went very ve...

AMD clips are essentially flat; can't install

James J., Newegg
5 September 2015
  • Summary: Unfortunately, Zalman's support has a reputation as abysmal as the reputation of its products is good. Their support web page has a picture of people on the phone, but they give no phone number whatsoever, and do not have any online support chat.
  • Pros: By all reports, Zalman CPU coolers cool very effectively. I hope I get the chance to confirm that someday.
  • Cons: The AMD "clips" (pieces of metal by which the cooler is attached to the motherboard) have to be bent down at the end so that they can reach from where they are attached at the cooler side to where the nuts and bolts can secure it to the motherboard. That's how they are shown in the manual, and th...

Clip Issue

Richard R., Newegg
17 February 2015
  • Summary: I will be checking the temp on my processor daily to make sure the paste supplied by Zalman won't be causing an overheating issue.
  • Pros: Quiet. Looks good
  • Cons: Intel clips I received are not the ones pictures in the install video on the Zalman site. http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Setup.php?Idx=416 I purchase my first 9900MAX over 1.5 years ago. I wsa getting a Fan Speed error from my computer so I purchased another 9900MAX. The Intel clips wi...

Impossible to install for AMD

Matthew R., Newegg
31 January 2015
  • Pros: Looks awesome, good price, mostly good reviews.
  • Cons: I bought this cooler along with a new FX 8320E and Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard with high hopes of keeping the new cpu cool with little effort. Little did I know the problems that would come from trying to install this cooler. The cooler uses a custom mounting bracket which is understandable...

It basically requires two people and you will be arguing back and forth trying to figure out how to get this one and it is not a

Israel, Amazon
27 November 2014
  • Summary: Do not get these if you have an am3 socket, or any AMD socket. The screws do not reach the motherboard screws that it comes with. The installation manual is wrong and you cannot set it up as it is shown in the manual. I had to look up online how to install it.

Do NOT buy this CPU Cooler

Damon S., Newegg
23 November 2014
  • Summary: Stay away from this
  • Pros: The fan does a great job keeping the CPU cool.
  • Cons: Due to the horrible instructions I put the fan in the wrong way and was circulating the hot air inside my case. The screws are almost impossible to tighten with the board installed. The wrench they supplied was junk and started to strip the ball end you have to use to tighten at the extreme angle...

Too massive, broke my i7 1155 socket

Ross M., Newegg
29 October 2014
  • Summary: I can't recommend this to anyone with a 1155 socket, perhaps it works better with other styles.
  • Pros: Cooling performance was amazing, it seemed like the fan was always spinning at it's minimal RPM. Very happy with this aspect of the product. Installation was cumbersome, the mounting screws were hard to reach, basically needed to remove the entire motherboard to access them. Tough, but it was exp...
  • Cons: The pros are irrelevant , since the mass of this cooler actually ended up damaging my i7 1155 CPU socket. The PC was never dropped or mishandled, I was always extremely careful with it. The cantilever action appears to have been just too much, and damaged the pin on the CPU. I was able to recover...
