Cools good .... install leaves a lot to be desired

Cory B., Newegg
15 May 2015
  • Summary: Let me start this review by saying that my old Thermaltake cooler was much better than this and I wish I could have it back but the new case I bought was an inch too short to accommodate it and I didn't want to mess with returning it and getting a different case so I just bought a slightly smaller...
  • Pros: Does a good job of cooling.... once you get it installed. Doesn't hang over the motherboard making it a good fit in a tight case Lighter than some other aftermarket coolers
  • Cons: Screws are too short More components than necessary to mount the bracket Plastic bracket (see Other thoughts below)

Good cooling .... install leaves a bit to be desired.

the actual fitting

Anonymous, Newegg
13 May 2015
  • Pros: Grabs the heat from my CPU very nicely.
  • Cons: I had to buy another adapter ZM-CS4A, because I have an lga1366 mobo. Whatever. But the problem is, there is absolutely no way you can get the screws into the bracket. On the front size, they are just too far back the screws never reach. I managed to get the top two screws to hold after removing ...

Spends too much "J G", Amazon

  • Summary: i have a barebones i7 4770K. Corsair 300 R case Corsair 650W bronze rated PS 16 gigs of Mushkin DDR 3 16800 memory The stock cooler on my rig was dying a slow death. The fan was getting caught and ran at half speed at times so i swapped it out with this zalman.

Cools OK but the whine gives me a headache. I think I'll go back to a Thermaltake

Curtis Stanley, Amazon
9 February 2015
  • Summary: Not as good as I was hoping, but still very functional. I've got a lightly overclocked i7-4790K running at a mild 4.5GHz and it's not running terribly hot, but it's still warmer than I like. Maybe I'll just switch to a liquid cooler and crank it up. Also, this thing is so friggin' NOISY!

major pain in the rear

robert b., Newegg
7 February 2014
  • Pros: it looks nice and it is quiet
  • Cons: it's a monster size pita to install , not only do they expect you to take out ur mobo to put on washers but the safety pin is a colossal pita to install as well

Hard to install

Billy M., Newegg
8 January 2014
  • Summary: I would recommend a different cpu cooler
  • Pros: All Copper, Good design (for air flow), pretty quiet
  • Cons: Hard to install, Faulty screws, This cooler is held on by two brass screws that strip very easy. I had to go to Lowe's and get 4-40 course screws to make it work.

don't use with haswell LGA 1150 cpu

david s., Newegg
24 November 2013
  • Summary: -Requires 4 tiny translucent shoulder grommets. They don't include any spares, so if you lose one (very easy), you won't bea able to install. Also, on my latest purchase, all four supplied screws that attach the heatsink to the motherboard had insufficently long threads so the heatsink would not...
  • Pros: Nice looking, cools well.
  • Cons: -You cannot remove the fan to get access to clean the lint out of the fins. - Not suitable for newer Intel CPU's (haswell lga 1150 socket) as the mounting bracket interferes with the arm that opens the cpu socket. Thus you must remove the heatsink mount first, requiring access to the back of the ...

Fan noisy

Scott A., Newegg
1 July 2013
  • Summary: Not much, other than fan replacement is not designed to be universal. Fans wear out, and a clip system to accept standard replacements would be nice. I clipped a fan out of a very quiet, slightly smaller footprint casing, and glued it in place of the original fan which sounded like it had a bad...
  • Pros: Solid construction, Price
  • Cons: Fan Noise, Round design eliminates standard fan replacement

Originally happy, but now tired of the noise

Anonymous, Newegg
21 March 2013
  • Summary: I would spend the extra cash and get a closed loop cooling system, especially to get this monster out of the way of the rest of my case. It's HUGE.
  • Pros: I've had this cooler for 6 months now, and it does it's job very well. Keeps the CPU cool even under very heavy loads.
  • Cons: This thing can get LOUD. I have a lot of cooling in my case (aka a lot of mesh) so there isn't much sound resistance. I can hear this thing anytime it spins up above 30%
