This fan is louder than the stock fan for the ...

Harlacher, Amazon
2 April 2015
  • Summary: This fan is louder than the stock fan for the FX-6300. At 30 C (boot) it was whining. It did not help me sell my wife on the HTPC that has replaced the Time Warner DVRs. It is being returned.

Xavier H., Amazon
11 March 2015
  • Summary: I was having problems with keeping the noise down in my box, and it wasn't my graphics card. Switched from stock cooler to this bad boy, and I can't hear a thing anymore! Works great and very easy to install.

Not that quiet.

etaoin, Amazon
28 November 2014
  • Summary: I replaced the stock Intel HSF with this one for a quiet build. Then I ditched Windows XP this year and installed Ubuntu 14.04. I changed cases...and realized that the old case had been hiding tremendous fan noise (some from my old graphics card, too).

Super quiet

  • Summary: Used this in an HTPC build (years ago). It was very quiet and kept the CPU nice and cool, and beat everything else in it's price range. Zalman rocks!

a dust magnet, impossible to clean

Henry A., Newegg
2 April 2009
  • Pros: cools relatively well when new and clean
  • Cons: the "wheel" design that has spokes radiating out from the center is especially good at trapping dust and becoming impossible to clean. (the gaps between the fins become small enough to catch dust as you move closer to the center.) once the layer of dust is covering the fins, the fan itself become...

  • Summary: Newegg ROCKS!!!
  • Pros: Very nice. Keeps my processor nice and cooled off. Instructions were clear and easy to understand. Took a little bit of time and effort to get it in, but overall is very stable. Nice fan Zalman!
  • Cons: none

Works Well, Installation is Involved

Anonymous, Newegg
4 March 2009
  • Summary: Though installation was involved, it was not unreasonably so: Unlike one other reviewer, I did not have a difficult time screwing in the fan to the support. Granted, to remove the motherboard entirely just to install a new CPU fan is pretty serious, but it's straightforward--and anyway, if you're...
  • Pros: The fan cools well, fits just fine. The fan cools well: In degrees Celsius, I went from 50 idle / 70 load to 28/50. (Admittedly, I was needing to reapply some thermal grease when I made the change, so I expect most people will experience less dramatic results) The fan fits fine: I am using a Sock...
  • Cons: Installation was involved: I had to replace the stock CPU-fan support plate with the one provided by Zalman. To replace the plate I had to take my motherboard completely out from my case. This meant disconnecting everything. Though installation was involved, it was not unreasonable. (see "other t...

Zalman CPU Cooler

Michael H., Newegg
26 February 2009
  • Summary: P4 3.0 Prescott as a WHS. The original ten dollar heat sink/fan I bought 3 years ago was so loud! This is awesome! I went ahead and used the thermal grease it came with and my temps are in the mid 30's idle according to the bios and everest ultimate.
  • Pros: Quiet! Finally!! The Fan Controller is very nice too. The controller comes with a sticky pad that you can use to stick anywhere.
  • Cons: None!
