Summary: I wonder what kind of school the designer went to. Or may be they hired a "smart" person to do the job. I mean, did the designer ever try to install that thing by himself? Did he ever try to install other brand HS? Really?. Difficulty on screwing it right: >LV 90000 Lots of people and review demonstrated it's performance is worst than a 4 Heat pipe 212 EVO. Probably because of the installation.
Pros: It's huge and comes with 6 heat pipes It's 10 bucks only It does with it does. 5~7C lower than Hyper 212 plus. 212 plus: 1045T 3.2Ghz. idle 32. Loading: 55C This: idle 33. Loading 47. Still quiet .
Cons: The fan is not controlled by the MB quiet fan function no matter how hard I try to adjust it. That thermal compound sucks. Use Arctic Silver 5 instead.
Summary: To put a flawed product on the market that would take very little $$ to correct in exchange for negative image/feedback to me is not worth the $$ saved. Especially since this is such an excellent heat-sink/cooler that preforms above any other heat-sink I have ever used could have "put a feather in Zalman's cap". If it was just a mediocre cooler, then perhaps the tradeoff to save a couple bucks may have been worth it.
Pros: This is a long overdue update to my prior review. Can not give more then 3 eggs due to the poor design, but now that I have it mounted and been running for almost a month, I can say it is excellent as far as cooling. Very quiet, almost silent, even with an additional 140mm fan mounted. I moved from liquid cooling with initial intent of this being a temporary CPU cooler while I rebuild my external water cooling system. Seeing the CPU temperature with this cooler on a 3...
Cons: Still the fact that if the mounting screws where a few threads too short to make this a comfortable install. Such a simple fix that Zalman should have seen before even putting this on the market, or they did see and just neglected to supply more correct mounting screws still will make me think twice before choosing another Zalman product.
Summary: If I were you I would look elsewhere You can find another cooler that can install much easier in a lot less amount of time. Save yourself a headache and find another cooler. The coolermaster V8 is similar in cost and cooling but is a hell of a lot easier to install.
Pros: It's huge, looks great, has cool fan in the middle lol. Does a decent job cooling
Cons: The biggest con for me and as others have mentioned is it is poorly designed in the way it attached to your board. No heatsink should take a person with plenty of experience installing heatsinks and other components 2 hours to install. It really is a pain.
Summary: Installed on an ASRock Extreme 6 and due to the close quarters around the processor, starting and tightening the bolt hidden by the heat sinks was time consuming. Both the Scythe Ninja and Mugen coolers are easier to install and quieter the the Zalman. Plus the Scythe has an externally mounted fan..easy to change if it fails. Knocked off eggs for installation and noise levels.
Pros: - Quality construction. - Keeps it chilly. - Fan is mounted inside the cooler. This seems good and bad. I like the containment of the fan between the towers rather than mounted to the side.
Cons: - Install can be somewhat difficult. - Louder than expected. Noise levels under 1000 RPM are great, over that is becomes noticeable. - Fan is mounted inside the cooler. If the fan fails have to replace entire unit.
Summary: Good cooler, but not the easiest to install on an LGA2011 motherboard. I installed this on and Asus P9X79 pro board and am using the G Skill Ripjaws memory. The cooling fins cover the 2 inner ram slots, and if you have the memory already installed, it is almost impossible to bolt it down. Catch 22. You have to remove the ram to install the cooler, and then you would need to cut or bend the cooling fins to install ram in the 2 inner slots.
Pros: Good cooling, decent price
Cons: Not the simplest installation. covers ram slots closest to cpu
