Excerpt: The Red Scorpion S1283 CPU Cooler is one of the newest offerings from Xigmatek . It is a heat pipe, direct-touch, air cooling system for all Intel Socket 775 CPUs and AMD Socket AM2/754/939/940 CPUs. The design uses copper heat pipes through a system of aluminum alloy fins to effectively remove heat from the CPU and then disperses it with a 120mm fan.
Pros: Compatible with nearly all Intel and AMD CPUs, very quiet, good for overclocking, aesthetically pleasing.
Cons: 600g heavy, may require purchasing the "Crossbow" back plate.
Summary: The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 did very well in our tests. It cooled alot better than the stock intel cooler and the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro whilst keeping the volume to a minimum with that big low rpm fan.
The only bad side we can see to this cooler is the fact that the base is not a baseplate but the heatpipes and hold down mixed making the thermal paste collect in the areas between.
Pros: - Very good cooling performance, - Heatpipe Direct Touch technology, - Intel and AMD compatible, - Ultra quiet 120mm fan
Summary: The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 heatsink features three heatpipes in direct contact with the top of the processor, resulting in one very potent CPU cooler. The technique is called heatpipe Direct Touch, and for today's class of heatspreader capped processors it's the only way to go.
