Insane install

Casey S., Newegg
28 February 2013
  • Pros: Temperature reduced quite a bit (33%) over my stock heatsink/fan.
  • Cons: The installation of this unit is ridiculous. I've built over a dozen PCs, rebuilt car engines, built decks, fences, etc. I know how to work a screwdriver! It took almost 3 hours to install this thing. A few tips: 1. Run the screws through the threads on the backing plate. The holes on my backing ...

Works for me..

Leland H., Newegg
13 February 2013
  • Summary: Overall, the installation wasn't too insane. I have a mATX so my space was a little more cramped; I did have to remove my video card and the fan from the unit, plus I made sure to compress the anchor springs down a bit with a pair of pliers because they are wound pretty tight -as other reviewers...
  • Pros: Keeps my Phenom II x3 (OC x4) very cool under normal use Thermaltake fan isn't loud in my chassis upgradeable to a dual fan design
  • Cons: Higher priced than some competitors, but you get what you pay for Its kinda big, but as long as your rig can handle it, its not really a con.

Impossible for me to install

David S., Newegg
27 January 2013
  • Summary: If the above wasn't enough, I sent 3 rebates together to 3 companies including this one. The other 2 have confirmed receipt of the rebate; not Thermaltake. This used to be a good company. Now trying for worst around.
  • Pros: Good quality workmanship and material. Fits many motherboards.
  • Cons: I have assembled 4 computers from scratch with not the least trouble, and consider myself somewhat of an expert. However, on trying to install this cooler, I found it IMPOSSIBLE. Removing old backplate, installing CPU, thermal grease, positioning Thermaltake backplate, and putting the proper clip...

Good, but installation is a pain

Jonathan R., Newegg
21 December 2012
  • Summary: Like other reviewers, only recommend this for a new build. I wouldn't recommend this to novice builders either. I've been building PCs for 17 years and this has to be the most difficult installation for a CPU fan ever!
  • Pros: Whisper quiet fan. Has kept my processor very cool under heavy load so far. Also like the option of being able to add a second fan if I want to in the future.
  • Cons: Installation could be tremendously easier! I've used TT products for over a decade now. I've been a satisfied customer this entire time. This unit, however, makes me want to consider switching to another brand. What were they thinking when they designed this? I shouldn't need three hands to insta...

Worth the purchase

RODNEY M., Newegg
13 September 2012
  • Summary: I have used this CPU fan for over six years now. Still works fine.
  • Pros: Very affordable, and works perfectly.
  • Cons: Every now and then the fan will not turn on when the computer sets up. This is easily solved by re-starting the computer. Not really a con, just can be an inconvenience.

Garbage

William D., Newegg
19 July 2012
  • Pros: none
  • Cons: The pipes are crammed into slots cut in the heat sink side facing the cpu and lapped. There is no complete surface and it can NEVER be a machined flat surface. DO NOT BUY. I will never buy a thermal take product again EVER. AND NEWEGG should hang its head for not showing that side (the cpu side) ...

Great Cooling medium install

Bradley R., Newegg
23 June 2012
  • Summary: I really like the option for a second fan with the included brackets but I can't see the need unless you are OC.
  • Pros: Great Cooling. Nice a quiet and keeps my CPU well under temp under heavy extended load.(folding app) You get a lot of cooling for a good price. Plus it looks nice in the case.
  • Cons: Harder than average install. I installed this one as a replacment for my LGA775 Intel Core2 duo. Very hard to install in the case event with back panel access. Its a very sprung system for good reason so take your time doing the install. Easy way is to have the board out.

I wouldn't buy it again...

Randal S., Newegg
17 June 2012
  • Summary: This was the most difficult non stock cooler I have ever installed. Instructions were clear however the act of holding the unit stable on the processor while aligning the 4 screw holes AND compressing the tension spring AND using a screwdriver (in the shallow screw head) to affix the cooler to the...
  • Pros: It works fine
  • Cons: Installation was PAINFUL

User Review

Justin M., Newegg
2 May 2012
  • Summary: i7-2600 was running about 65C with stock Intel fan, now running at around 30C
  • Pros: Keeps CPU real cool, nice looking fan, can upgrade to add a second fan.
  • Cons: A little hard to install, since you had to take the entire motherboard out to install the bracket.

Nice 4 heat pipe cooler, horrible mounting design

Channing O., Newegg
8 April 2012
  • Summary: Not recommended for people on a short schedule, low patience, or the mechanically challenged. Only recommend for NEW builds or for someone who is planning to remove the motherboard. Nearly impossible to mount on an already installed MB. If you like a challenge, go for it.
  • Pros: 4 heat pipes in a midsize cooler, good direct contact with CPU. Easy fan mounting with extra clips for push/pull. On AMD CPU's it can mount horizontally or vertically. Overall good quality of materials & hardware. Good midsize air cooling potential for those willing to spend a little extra time a...
  • Cons: Terrible mounting. The quality of the hardware is good, and the brackets/backing plate are well designed, but we're expected to bolt it all together at once which is ridiculous at best. The backing plate should be mounted separately, then the heatsink to the plate. In this case, even if the backi...
