User Review

babco, targus.com

  • Summary: overall decent. A little small for my 17" laptop. Cant get USB to work. Purchased at Best Buy and no information is given about optional AC power supply. Best Buy doesnt carry one and are no help with information needed about obtaining one. Nothing on website about it either. Paid extra for the USB portion of this cooler but laptop does not have power to run fans and USB ports both. Dont buy.
  • Pros: lightweight and quiet with dual fans.
  • Cons: needs power supply

I think it is full of demons.

  • Summary: It worked wonderfully the first few weeks I had it until one day it decided to sound comparable to a jet. ( I could hear it across the house) I had to unplug and replug it every time it decided to act up, And that was every time it got bumped in the slightest. My laptop will shut down without fan from overheating which is a serious problem, but if I set this on my bed or flat on the couch, When I come back my laptop will be 200 degrees and OFF.
  • Pros: worked well for a while , unobtrusive , cord storage
  • Cons: worked terribly the rest of the time , my 17.5 inch laptop likes to slide off , when i bumb the cord i get a "new device found"

Must use external power supply to get max from pad

LWJ, targus.com
23 January 2012
  • Summary: You must use external power supply to get the maximum chilling and USB capabilities from chill pad. The power supply is listed under: Shop; Accessories: Optional Accessories; AC Wall Adapter, on their web site but they do not sell item. Use your browser and zoom onto power supply label to see manufacture and voltage.

Needs additional power supply to fully function

wamjr1, targus.com
26 December 2011
  • Summary: This is a nice product, however, when using it I can't get the hub to work. From reading other reviews on Amazon it appears that it needs more power for the fans than the computer USB port can supply. A power supply is mentioned in the User Guide, but can't find it on the web site. I have a very modern laptop, so it would seem to me that the power supply should be included with the product. If the hib can be made to work, then it will be a good device.
  • Pros: good idea dood design
  • Cons: needs power supply

Pathetic

EFG, targus.com
30 November 2011
  • Summary: I have always stayed away from Targus products but finally succumbed to this cooling hub. It is impossible to purchase an AC Adapter for it because Targus doesn't make an effort to provide one themselves or from any other manufacturer. No indication for correct voltage anywhere.

2nd Time Around

18 September 2011
  • Summary: Okay, I had purchased my original Chill Mat at one of those big bargain stores, didn't realize what I had until I'd used it a couple of years and into the ground. Threw the first one away knowing it had a port for a wall unit to run the auxiliary USB hubs. I hadn't utilized them previously, but, this time around I wanted to be prepared and get an adapter for the unit.
  • Pros: dual fans , 4 usb ports , potential for wall power adapter
  • Cons: requires some thought to set up. , usb port drivers need to be installed , need to purchase the power adapter & guess volts
