However, this is clearly the upper limit of how big a cooler can be and still earn a high recommendation. Hear that, vendors? Scale ‘em down a bit.

Summary: Scythe Mugen-2 is a huge, nicely crafted cooler. As soon as we saw it, we imagine it would perform well. Actually, that performance was more than good, it was excellent. It cools our CPU as good as the best coolers we tested with this methodology.
Besides that, it is virtually the most quiet cooler we put our hands.

Summary: Scythe Mugen-2's bolt-thru mounting has been long awaited by PC enthusiasts everywhere. We are not completely enthusiastic about how the bolt-through mounting was implemented — applying a screwdriver to the back side of a motherboard is tedious and possibly dangerous. Still, it is a much better alternative to plastic pushpins, especially for a large cooler like the Mugen-2.

Summary: The Scythe Mugen 2 is one of the best coolers I have tested this year. I was so surprised to see just how well it held up against the some very stiff competition like the Ultra-120 Extreme and Zalman CNPS 9900 coolers. Each of these coolers have been top performers here at Pro-Clockers and the Mugen 2 will be joining them on this list. The performance is incredible and the price is more incredible at $40. It takes the crown as the best budget cooler available today.
Conclusion: The Scythe Mugen 2 has been very impressive in all areas of testing, especially the cooling – this leads me to believe that this is a very well designed product that combines innovative technology with tried and tested design. It does this by retaining the widely used tower format but putting their own spin on it – MAPS technology.
