Rosewill 1x 80mm HDD fan

Anonymous, Newegg
23 October 2008
  • Summary: The plug power for the fan is the older PATA style and can be compared to the plug on most Christmas tree lights (you plug it in, and still can plug something else into that). If that doesn't explain it for you, then just know that it may use a PATA plug for power, but it doesn't leave you with one...
  • Pros: Great piece of equipment! I have both this modle, and the Rosewill 2x 50mm HDD fan. The latter for a HDD that seems to run at a bit higher temp (40-45) without the fan, than my other drive that runs between 30 and 40 usually. I've had this fan the longest and I've had it on both drives, it keeps ...
  • Cons: Just watch out when you're installing it on the drive, the screw holes on the drives that I've used are sensitive to lining up the screws exactly right, if you're off a bit it seems that the fan's holes don't line up, but they do. Just alternate putting the screws in and tightening them down and ...

  • Summary: for the price you can't really beat it... 80mm cooling fan for your hd that fits on pretty well.. you might have a little trouble mounting but other than that... good solid product
  • Pros: Cools the HD pretty well for what it is... according to hdd therm, its running around 85F degress... so around 33 C or so
  • Cons: difficult to get it to sit in the cage right.... screw holes didnt line up after the cooler was installed.. had to redrill the holes... other than that it was ok

  • Summary: It's a good idea, but mounting the fan underneath the drive causes problems in most cases. If you have quick mount attachments, or really small space, I'd say no. The fan itself is great. Very decent for the price.
  • Pros: Quite. Decent air movement. Cheep.
  • Cons: Not very practical on the hard drive. Had to fight way too much to get it on there.

  • Pros: Easy to install. This device has cooled down my hard drive by 5 degrees!
  • Cons: When attached to the hard drive, I had to put the hard drive in the bottom disk drive tray which was a little tight. Other than that, no issue.

User Review

Ray F., Newegg
22 February 2008
  • Summary: It does move air, but barely noticeable. The difference between my 37GB Raptor (boot drive and very close to bottom of adjacent bay so it has almost 0 airflow) and my WD5000 with the cooler and ample space around it is 2c. 34c vs 32c.
  • Pros: The fan does move minimal air. It looks like it could work well.
  • Cons: Very tight fit on WD5000. I had to get someone else to push the sides together slightly so I could get screws on the other side to start... even with the other side loose enough for the piece to slide a bit. I knew it would take up much more room and would have to be scooted around to fit accepta...

May Not Fit all Cases

Mathew B., Newegg
25 January 2008
  • Pros: They look cool.
  • Cons: Does not fit into an Antec 900 case. The metal ledges the hard drives sit on stick out too much to slide the fan in. I suppose I could shave them down or something but I'm not going to go through all that.
