NZXT Cryo S Aluminum Notebook Cooler

  • Summary: What is obvious from the results of the review is that the Cryo S does help lower your system temperatures. When it comes to electronic components, cooler is always better, so the primary objective of this device was accomplished. What you can not see, and what I found even more impressive, is the difference in comfort provided by the Cryo S.
  • Pros: » Effective cooling, » Sturdy build, » Increased comfort
  • Cons: » No power switch

NZXT Cryo S Laptop Cooler Review

  • Summary: Setup & Usage Getting your laptop setup with the Cryo S is pretty simple. Just place your laptop on top, plug in the AC USB cable, then the other USB cable if you want to use the USB hub. Then adjust the fans how you want them. The Cryo S easily fits on any desk or table. I even used it sitting on my lap while I was relaxing on my couch. There is a small green LED that lights up when you power up the Cryo S.

  • Summary: With a sleek and simple exterior combined with extra USB ports the NZXT. Cryo S Aluminum Notebook Cooler does its job and looks good while doing it. Remember, the Cryo S is a performance notebook cooler and strangely enough, I found that most performance laptops had much larger screens and would not fit on this cooler. The smaller laptops it would actually fit seem to be more mobile, and this cooler is not the best for carrying around (it seems too clunky and odd).

  • Excerpt: With laptop sales consistently topping desktop sales, a comfortable and cool computer is quickly becoming a top priority. There are many laptop coolers out on the market with similar features. So how does one decide on which cooler to purchase? Some of the important traits include angle between laptop keyboard and computing surface, structural rigidity of the unit, cooling capabilities, transportability, and of course price.

NZXT Cryo S Aluminum Notebook Cooler Review

thetechzone.com
2 August 2009
  • Summary: In many ways, you could say that NZXT is doing more of the same with the Cryo S notebook cooler. It’s not terribly different from the other Cryo notebook coolers, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The build quality and choice of materials are positively fantastic and those 120mm fans are quite impressive compared to many of its competitors. The NZXT Cryo S notebook cooler certainly isn’t the cheapest option on the block, but it could be one of the best built.
  • Pros: Super solid construction with 3mm thick aluminum, Rubberized plastic surface is very grippy, Fan speed control dial, Bonus two-port USB hub
  • Cons: Non-adjustable height, Cannot be folded for easy portability, USB hub and fan speed control may be better on the side, No power switch

NZXT Cryo S Laptop Cooler

  • Summary: Overall, I was extremely happy with the Cryo S. It has everything you expect from a laptop cooler and doesn’t skimp in any way. On the noise front, the cooler performed very well. While audible at high fan speeds, it wasn’t overwhelmingly so. At lower than 100% fan speeds, it was quieter than the internal fan on either my Wind or the Latitude D420. The Cryo S is also very comfortable to use.

  • Excerpt: It’s partly because I tend to work out of some rather cramped quarters , but I haven’t owned a desktop computer in years. Instead, my trusty notebook has become my main computer, handling all of my image editing, word processing, and social networking.

NZXT Cryo S Notebook Cooler

  • Summary: To get some baseline temperatures for the laptop we first ran it on our lap doing a couple of instances of Prime95 to get things heated up.  While many may say that this is not a typical situation for a laptop to be ran at 100% load, many people today use their laptops for 3D Modeling and light workstation rendering.  This puts the laptop under huge amounts of stress and things heat up quickly.
  • Pros: Solid, High-Quality aluminum construction, Rubber accents on top keep laptop raised for better cooling and provide non-slip surface, Adjustable fan speed
  • Cons: Only provides two additional USB ports

  • Conclusion: While I didn’t achieve a drastic temperature drop, it does do something as I noticed the fans did not come on full speed on my laptop while under load, so it’s does do something to help keep your laptop cool.
  • Pros: Silent fans, Includes USB hub, Includes AC power adapter
  • Cons: Doesn’t cool well, though it depends on the notebook used, Isn’t exactly portable
