Excerpt: With more and more laptop coolers passing through our doors, I have seen enough to get a basic feel for the market. Some coolers look like space ships with bulky plastic and rubber pieces and get surrounded by LEDs; some with and some without lighting control. If I was a teenager again, these things would all appeal to me, and at that point I know noise wasn't as much of an issue for me back then, but with lots of other things going on in the world around a PC, I like to...
Conclusion: The Cryo LX isn’t very portable though, it’s almost all solid aluminum making it fairly heavy, and it’s rather large as well. Your mileage may vary in regards to cooling performance though, it all depends on how your laptop is made, where the cooling vents and fans are etc.
Pros: Very well made, Cools laptop, Built-in USB Hub, Will fit most any size laptop, Virtually silent
Cons: Your performance will vary on your laptop, Heavy, not very portable
NZXT Cryo LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler Video Review
4 January 2009
Summary: The NZXT Cryo LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler screams hardcore! It's all aluminum, comes with three 120mm fans, 4 USB ports, fits 15" to 19" notebooks and has a foldable design. If you need a cooler for a gaming notebook, you've found it!
Summary: NZXT has done a terrific job with the Cryo LX. I love the thick aluminum construction and the trio of fans with speed control. The four-port USB hub is an added bonus as most coolers simply rob you of an extra port, while the cooling performance is reasonably good. The two things that would deter me from making the purchase, however, are the price and the fact that the Cryo LX is quite big and heavy. It’s best suited for use in the home rather than on the road.
Summary: The NZXT Cryo LX is a heavy-duty, high-performance notebook cooler. As NZXT is all about gamers, they mainly intend it for someone that uses a notebook for gaming.
The Cryo LX does its job quite well. It moves a serious amount of air, actually cooling the notebook case rather than just blowing air towards the notebook's vents. Included is a 4-port USB hub, for those that don't have enough ports for USB devices and an on-board fan controller.
Conclusion: The NZXT Cryo LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler arrived in a very attractive package. It set the standards just a bit higher because who doesn't judge a book by its cover. When I removed the NZXT Cryo LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler from the box I was surprised at the weight of the cooler. It is solid aluminum so it is heavy. It is extremely well put together and has ample rubberised grips to protect your laptop. The fans are well placed and there is ample airflow.
Pros: Solid Aluminum Frame, Rubberised grips to prevent slipping, Ability to control fan speed, Additional USB ports for data transfer
Cons: Made for use on desk top only, Not that easily stored or transported, Did not cool as significantly as expected, Lack of manual in box
