Owned this fan for 5 years.

David L., Newegg
16 November 2014
  • Summary: For the price, this fan should have lasted more than 5 years, I could buy 5 cheap fans for this price and replace them every 3 years. It was running pretty much 24/7 ... but the environment was clean and dust free. The fan was cleaned twice with compressed air during these 5 years, but there was really no dust on them anyhow.
  • Pros: Fan is quiet, initial quality is high, nice rubber vibration isolation plugs come with the fan.
  • Cons: Fan only lasted 5 years.

Impressively quiet yet powerful 80mm fan

Steven H., Amazon
21 October 2014
  • Summary: I am very impressed with this fan. I've been building my own PCs and have worked as a hardware technician in the past with over 15 years of experience. I have never been this impressed by a computer fan. My motivation for purchasing this fan was I guess cause I'm getting older lol. I decided it was time to focus more on quiet cooling of my PC than all out disregard everything for performance.

There quiet if you know how to make them quiet

Vincent M., Newegg
30 September 2014
  • Summary: The fan comes with two small adapters. Looking at them initially you may just wonder what the heck they are for. Each of these wires has a resistor on it to slow the fan down into a lower sound/speed mode and a super low sound/speed mode. The connector with the black shrinkwrap/tape around the middle wire is the super slow/low sound wire. This is probably the one you want to connect to the fan, then to power. If you use that one, the fan is completely quiet.
  • Pros: They are good fans once you connect the added adapters to them to make them quiet.
  • Cons: Not outright quiet without adding adapter to them. If you don't read the instructions, you'll overlook it.

3 of these-- WORTH THE MONEY

Nicholas F., Newegg
23 September 2014
  • Summary: Using these to replace the fans in my 2U enclosure. Unfortunately Redux fans are not meaningfully cheaper than these.
  • Pros: Near silent *Moves alot of air *Comes with adapter with a resister to make it even quieter *Comes with PWM extension--like 4 inches long *Comes with PWM Splitter *All cables and adapters are nicely sleeved *6 year warrenty
  • Cons: *Very high cost to put in all of my devices, recommend slowly integrating noctua fans into your environment to avoid the sticker shock

  • Summary: First impressions: Quality build and very sturdy. Easy to install and it damn near silent. I have to get right up next to my computer to hear this thing running. Love the low profile.

PWM cpu cooler fan replaced and quiet is now constant.

R. Berry, Amazon
12 September 2014
  • Summary: Quick delivery of a fine product with all needed hardware. The extra wiring is a great bonus, for those with different projects running concurrently. This fan is in fact a PWM controlled device, and works well, better than the stock fan ever sounded. This was modded to fit a "Walmr@t" micro case cpu cooler. The speed control wire is not required for this cpu cooler, but may come in handy for another project.

Differences between 3 and 4 wire NF-R8 fans

Dane L. Ryan, Amazon
12 September 2014
  • Summary: Let's be clear here people. The "NF-R8" is a 3 wire fan and is not pulse width modulated by your motherboard for quiet running. The "NF-R8 PWM" IS a pulse width modulation capable fan that can be controlled by the motherboard. The PWM capable fan has 4 wires. If you paid for a "NF-R8 PWM" and got a 3 wire fan you were ripped off and should protest loudly.

The pulse-width modulation is a nice feature for someone who isn't interested in using a ...

C. Stokes, Amazon
29 August 2014
  • Summary: Noctua makes trusted and very quiet fans. The pulse-width modulation is a nice feature for someone who isn't interested in using a manual fan controller but wants some speed variability. People often complain about Noctua's color scheme, but I don't build flashy windowed systems, so I prefer getting the best fan out there, regardless of the aesthetics.
