Impressive cooling, fan required

lowrez, Amazon
11 November 2013
  • Summary: The description on Amazon led me to believe that this is a fanless cooler, thus not requiring a fan. Wrong. The unit DOES require a fan, but does not come with one. I was looking for something silent. If I had known a fan was required I would not have purchased it.

  • Summary: Backplate design isn't hard. There's no reason Corsair should have such a complicated and error prone design.
  • Pros: I never actually had it fully installed, so none.
  • Cons: *Very* poor backplate design. It is made basically of plastic and rubber, and the screws do not hold. I had to take a wrench to the backplate to get the screws out to dismount it in order to return the thing.

Doesn't fit Antec Solo

Kacey C., Newegg
14 July 2012
  • Summary: Antec Solo Core i5 750 Asus P7P55D-E Pro Corsair H70 core 2 Cougar Vortex (CF-V12HPB) fans, push/pull in exhaust configuration Corsair HX750
  • Pros: Just installed and my cores are sitting at 28-34C idle. Cooling capacity should only improve as the thermal paste burns in. This is a nice CPU cooler for the money. Works as expected.
  • Cons: Mine had a few bent radiator fins. Not the end of the world, but it will *marginally* decrease airflow. More of an issue is the placement and fit of the radiator in my mid-tower Antec Solo case. This case has the power supply mounted above the case fan location with a support bar between the two....

No.

Joon L., Newegg
17 December 2011
  • Summary: Brand new custom rig down the drain all thanks to corsair's improper customer service and terrible manual & videos.
  • Pros: Looks cool
  • Cons: The worst instruction manual I have ever seen. Corsair must have hired some russian potato farmer to make this manual. Even the installation videos on youtube don't go into good details regarding backplate pinning & front bracket mounting for intel. On top of that, unscrewing the rear bolt made d...

  • Pros: Don't know yet.
  • Cons: There was a missing screw that's used on the back plate behind the motherboard, Called Corsair last Monday and it took them until Friday to actually ship the replacement part, and it wont arrive until this Friday. I offered to pay extra for faster shipping and got completely ignored. Very annoyed...

Not great

Joe C., Newegg
14 July 2011
  • Summary: I've reseated this unit around five times and have used three different thermal pastes (the stock shin etsu stuff that comes pre-applied, Arctic 5, and some free Xigmatek stuff that I got after purchasing the H70 that I used as a last-ditch effort) and the temps never changed.
  • Pros: -Looks nice -Doesn't take up too much space -A simple entry-level water-cooling unit that requires no maintenance
  • Cons: -Temps are very high with this thing: 40c idle, 60-65c while gaming and 75c+ while prime95ing (just blending) -Was a pain to install when trying to lock the cpu block in place -Tubes are very short and stiff, which makes positioning this thing very difficult and making the installation even more ...

Not that great.

Philip M., Newegg
5 June 2011
  • Summary: This is pretty sad, everything in my case is from corsair (not a fanboy, just ended up like that somehow) but this cooler, simply put, sucks.
  • Pros: Simple, makes for a very clean case (600T)
  • Cons: It doesn't really cool all that well. If you take the resistors off the fan it sounds like a blow dryer. They didn't choose good fans for radiators. Furthermore it simply does not cool... idle of 37° with this kind of cooling is unacceptable. Look how much your paying. A nice solid air cooler wou...

Follow-up

James P., Newegg
1 June 2011
  • Summary: I was running a i7 2600k at 4.4 ghz on this and hitting temps as high as 75 C. I RMA'd it and bought a Noctua NH-D14. I never looked back. I am not running that same processor (with some Arctic Cool MX-4 thermal paste) at 4.6 ghz and staying below 70 C in Prime 95. With stock fans...
  • Pros: It is passable at cooling, equivalent to a mid-end air cooler.
  • Cons: Nowhere near as good as cheaper air cooling solutions.

CORSAIR Hydro H70 CWCH70 120mm High Performance CPU Cooler

Jenn, pricebat.ca
5 June 2013
  • Excerpt: Not the ideal CPU cooler. The temps are not that excellent. I would not waste your income on this a single. I am now stuck with this until a few months saving up for a watercooling method. Negative Temps not what I anticipated.
