Summary: wow .. what a nightmare to install. Using the supplied gear to install on the back of the mobo; it touched areas which shorted it. Would not boot. removed the support plate supplied and mounted it again ... still shorted the mobo. 3rd time now. remove the MOBO ... i ordered these washers from Amazon. ... my weekend project ...
Summary: This seems to be a decent piece of equipment. It is well constructed (by modern standards) and the ease of installation is just fine. Don't fear the reviews on that note. If you are a layman you shouldn't be trying to install processor coolers of any type so naturally you would have difficulty. However I should point out that instructions are just fine even for a layman if you are willing to look up a few things.
Summary: Fan makes a cricket noise after running for 6 months now. I opened it to clean and after a few air blasts to remove the dust, fan started making noise and at high speed setting it makes an irritable noise like a lonely cricket that slipped past your mesh door. Looking to replace it.
Summary: Was very excited to see it arrive, but, thermal tape missing on the first one so sent it back. They were VERY fast to send another. Second one had all the parts but unfortunately there were 2 scuff marks that looked like it may had been slid down and assembly line or something. Not too worried about scuff marks but it had to be right where the item is viewed the most, in the front. One on the left of the V8 symbol and one on the right.
Summary: I just finished putting it together with i7 920 CPU. It's an ok cooler. It cools well, but there are others on the market that can cool as good and doesn't weigh as much or isn't as tall. It certainly looks cool, but when was the last time you looked at the cpu cooler in your current system? I'm concerned it may damage the motherboard down the road because it has to stand perpendicular to the board with all that weight... Take a look at other CPU coolers.
Summary: Really doing great on a Core i7! I can put my hand on top of this cooler while the processor is running wide open and it's cool to the touch. Suggestion: Take measurements..this baby is bigger than you might expect. Make sure you have clearance in the case.
Summary: Pros: Keeps my i7 920 cool below 69 degrees C (realtemp.exe) under 100% load, Prime 95 stress test, 8 threads, maximum burn, 3 hours. Ambient temperature 78 F. The processor is overclocked to 3.41 ghz, stock voltages. I used Artic Silver 5, applied as per instructions on AS5 website, and a Cooler Master HAF 932. My mobo is an EVGA X58 the A1 variant, with Vista 64 SP1. It looks good with the red led, and the "V8" logo.
