Cooler Master Notepal U Stand Review
5 June 2013
Excerpt: The cooling of a laptop is essential for the longevity of the system. Many laptops fail due to the over heating of its batteries. Laptop coolers have been around for quite a while, but somehow they have not gone as mainstream as much as they should have. While purchasing a notebook, a cooler usually does not feature as one of the primary accessories one considers. Notebooks and netbooks come with fans inbuilt, however, this does not keep a laptop as cool as it should be.
Excerpt: has recently released the , a multi-functional cooling pad/laptop stand for hassle-free cooling. It comes as a ergonomically designed five angle stand, has two removable 100mm fans, and has a three port USB hub. U Stand is firmly constructed of brushed aluminum and can accommodate up to a 17″ laptop. U Stand weighs 3.3 lbs and comes in black only. Let’s give it a closer look.
Pros: It has ergonomic design and features five different height settings with stand., U Stand feels sturdy in design., The two fans can be re-positioned for maximum cooling., Features three port USB hub to plug in additional devices., U Stand can accommodate up to a 17" laptop., Power source can be 5 DC or connection to laptop by mini USB.
Cons: The open bottom design. It does not work well as a lap pad., Adapter for 5 DC power is not included.
Summary: The U-Stand serves two purposes: the first would be as a laptop cooler which we all need in order to keep the heat produced by that beast under control. And the U-Stand did just that as it reduced our temperatures on the CPU and GPU by eight degrees during stress testing. A nice drop for those that like to game on their lappies. And the second purpose would be as a stand for your laptop.
Conclusion: Can we recommend the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W PSU to our readers? The PSU does deserve a recommendation. It performed really well, not only in power delivery, but also in voltage regulation and overall acoustics even at really high loads when our system was overclocked not only on the CPU but also on the three GTX 580s. The ripple test showed some higher noise than expected, but it was not the worst we’ve seen and it was within an acceptable range.
Pros: Plenty of power for high-end systems, Can handle a system with overclocked CPU, and three GTX 580s overclocked., Short PSU Design and Modular, Quiet even under high load
Cons: Not 100% Modular, Design flaw–possible to short circuit with slightly longer screw
Summary: Final Thoughts
Cooler Master’s Notepal line has been around for quite a long time and with each new product they add to the line there is more and more innovation. The Notepal U Stand is really 2 products in one. It is a notebook cooler as well as a stand. The cooling power of the Notepal U Stand is average, you are not going to see more than a 10 degree change in temperature, but that can still make a difference.
Pros: Both a stand and a cooler, Quiet fans, 5 height adjustments, 3port USB hub
Summary: To get some baseline temperatures for the laptop we first ran it on the Lenovo Advanced Dock doing some Prime95 to get things heated up. While many may say that this is not a typical situation for a laptop to be ran at 100% load, many people today use their laptops for 3D Modeling and light workstation rendering. This puts the laptop under huge amounts of stress and things heat up quickly. CPU temperature was recorded with CoreTemp and was logged to record the maximum...
Pros: Durable aluminum & heavy duty plastic construction, Removable and positionable fans, Excellent Cooling, 3 USB Ports, Fan Power Switch, Easily fits up to 17" laptops, Height adjustable
Cons: Doesn't work well on laps at all. Simply made for the desk.
Summary: The Notepal U Stand laptop cooler certainly does what it is designed to do - keep mobile computing devices cool and provide an ergonomic working environment while all wrapped up in a clean and functional design. The two adjustable / removable 100mm fans provide the cooling power and configuration flexibility necessary to meet just about any user's needs. The inclusion of a three port USB hub adds to the overall value of the unit.
Pros: » Sturdy aluminum construction, » Provides effective cooling to the key heat generating components, » Two removable and adjustable fans, » Fans produce just about zero noise, » Adjustable to five comfortable positions
Cons: » Short USB cable may be an issue with larger devices., » Anti-slip holders may be too tall for some users., » No fan speed control
Summary: When it comes to gaming mice, or mice in general for that matter, everyone has their own opinion and no two individual’s account will be the same. Some like to really get into what the mouse has to offer, which would mean diving into the included application, changing settings and recording macros. I guess we would call these the hard core gamers. While others like to keep things simple and mostly default, which would be the casual gamer.
