Summary: Ok so my stock fan gave out, and installed the Arctic Alpine. Wow big difference in sound very quiet, but now system keeps beeping all the time. Tried resetting and reconnecting the fan ctr, no luck. Windows runs fine just would not stop beeping. It keeps the temp on my Phenom X2 well under 45 degrees so seems to be doing its job am guess the speed controller doesn't work well with my Asrock 870 motherboard.
Summary: On my ASrock AM3 motherboard, this cooler covers a much needed RAM slot, so I re-installed the old cooler. The old cooler was large, heavy and tall and was always in an upright case. Gravity caused the bracket base to fail. Unfortunately, this new cooler is just as big and heavy but not as tall as the old one. Because it is shorter and wider, it covered the RAM slot. This one becomes another product in the extra parts bin ...
Cons: fragile, broke one piece off (won't affect performance) and i wasn't really pressing on it, just adjusting the position. Hard to install, forget about installing it straight, you got take the screw off and screw it back on. Not quite cool enough for a AMD, would be fine for an intel.
Summary: I have bought a few other heat sinks in the past and even if they dont advertise it they normally give you a little bit of thermal compound, so I had to run down to best buy and waste another 12 dollars.
Pros: Does what it suppose to and runs quiet.
Cons: Didnt come with anything to mount it into place, ended up using a rubber band to strap it down.
Summary: I would spend a few extra dollars and get a better cooler.
Pros: If you need a replacement cooler and don't have a lot of cash it will work.
Cons: These thing is flimsy as hell. The fan blade are ultra thin the plastic is not durable at all. I cannot see this product lasting very long. My stock cooler for my FX 8 was bigger and better than this one.
Pros: I was having problems with the stock cooler that came with my Phenom II X6, and searching high and low (e-mailing Gigabyte and AMD didn't help things) I found this replacement. The motherboard I'm using is a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 and on startup the stock fan was being reported at 6600 RPM and sounded like a helicopter waiting to take off. I finally found this fan and I installed it and it works. It comes with Arctic's excellent Silver 5 compound pre applied and there...
Cons: At first it didn't fit over the plastic socket mount that comes with AMD motherboards. I literally had to take apart my build in order to take the base plate off and mount the cooler - it certainly wasn't as easy as the instructions had made it out to be. During that time the cheap plastic holding the fan clips kept breaking and I lost a couple of pieces on the top part of the fan. I eventually got it mounted and put my build back together but it was a lot more work t...
