Quiet

Nathan T., Newegg
17 January 2010
  • Summary: Sis-in-Law plays WoW on a rig I built her. The onboard GPU fan started making an awful sound, so rather than buy another fan that could develop the same problem, figured I'd just go the silent route. Has worked fine
  • Pros: Perfectly silent. Upgradable with a fan if I so choose.
  • Cons: Came a little close to the edge of the computer case, but still fit fine. Also, make sure you have plenty of airflow in your case, or even this over sized heatsink won't help

Keeping it Cool

Harrison C., Newegg
3 November 2009
  • Summary: My HIS HD4670 came with the IceQ Turbo fan which is very quiet. On this card it slows to almost noiseless because unlike most cards it idles at 3W and maxes at 40W. Nonetheless, this quiet fan was as audible as my Zalman CPU fan or my Noctua rear case fan so was still a bit of an irritation.
  • Pros: Very quiet :)
  • Cons: Installation is tricky and takes patience.

Passed the Test of Time

Mark J., Newegg
6 September 2009
  • Summary: My other thoughts have nothing to do with this item. I shot the Woodchuck, he ruined my vegetable garden.
  • Pros: I installed one of these over a year ago, it's been great. I'm getting another one again for a different build. The memory heat sinks held fast, never a problem. (HINT: preclean card surfaces with 91% alc.) This cooler turns a noisey video card into a silent, cool running part of your system.
  • Cons: There are no cons if you have the room for it, and you take your time and follow directions with the install.

Wow

Anonymous, Newegg
25 August 2009
  • Summary: A bit large but it fits just fine in my case. I had no problems installing it.
  • Pros: Installed on Nvidia GeForce 8600gt. Before I got this my GPU was running 90c idle and 120ish on full load. I knew there was a problem with my temperatures so I bought this heatsink. After installing the heatsink my idle temps are 55c or 49c with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82...
  • Cons: None so far.

Works Great !

Robert S., Newegg
29 July 2009
  • Summary: Hope you have patience. I was battling myself. Telling myself to go step by step and do it right the first time. But inside i was dying to find out how it was going to perform ! But i took my time and it work out well. : )
  • Pros: Amazing cooling. I bought if for a XFX 8800GS. For my media pc/ low level gamer. My need was a quiet, but efficient cooler. And it did do what I wanted it to do. Temps went from 58c idle/ 79c load. To 46c idle / 59c load @ 92F ambient room temp.
  • Cons: I can't say it's a con, because i knew it was going to be a big cooler. But it's a big heat sink. Then i added a 120mm fan to it. Took up even more space. But I was planning on that.

Excellent Cooler

Mark J., Newegg
17 July 2009
  • Summary: A higher end video card will probably run hotter than 40-45c but let me tell you now - add a fan to this cooler, and you will NOT be disappointed. Alternative fan choice would be EVERCOOL SB-F2 PCI Slot Case Cooler ( Item#: N82E16835119066)
  • Pros: I was hesitant about this cooler - being passive - but I was proved wrong. I placed this cooler on a HD 3650 and overclocked it as high as it would go. Tested it for 3 hours where the GPU was running at least 75% and higher. The GPU temps never passed 55c (and I don't keep my office cold). For gi...
  • Cons: It was much bigger than I thought, but fit well in my 6 year OLD case. The RAM heat sinks - which are included are a bit big for a HD 3650 and I had to ... put them on the chips a bit crooked, but they worked.

  • Cons: Big! most likely wont fix in htpc case.

8 month recap

stan h., Newegg
10 March 2009
  • Summary: My S2 came with a ventilated expansion slot 'blank'. I've not read all the reviews, but I've not seen this mentioned in those that I have. This part is intended to be mounted to an adjacent empty slot below the S2, allowing the ingestion of additional fresh cool air into the bottom back of a mini...
  • Pros: As I stated in my previous review last July, this thing works great. Since then I've added a thin profile 92mm Delta AFB0912HHB to the front, using very small zip ties, orienting the fan to blow air through the fin array into the card. This adds significant cooling to the RAM chips vs the totally...
  • Cons: Size matters. Especially if you want passive cooling. Some have decried the size of this cooler. Its size is necessary, in the absence of forced induction (fan), to adequately cool a GPU IC. It's simple thermodynamics. It's probably safe to state that the only folks complaining about the S2's siz...

User Review

Michael F., Newegg
10 March 2009
  • Pros: Easy install, excellent cooling performance, quiet. Bought a PNY 9600gt that was absurdly loud, I took a chance and bought this. Actually runs cooler than stock, and best of all, totally silent! Fits in my Antec 300 with plenty of room to spare.
  • Cons: none
