  • Summary: Good value for 5$, but otherwise this is something I could live without. I'm afraid the plastic leg at the back that folds out to keep the laptop at an angle will eventually break if I'm not careful. Also the metal part is not large enough to completely cover my 14 laptop but it still holds very well anyways.
  • Pros: -Cheap on sale, -Silent, -Effective
  • Cons: -Plastic leg may not be 100% sturdy?, -Not exactly large enough for a 14 wide laptop

Good fan, doesn't last

nico, Adorama

  • Excerpt: Plug it into my laptop almost every time I use the laptop. It seems to calm the internal fan quite a bit. This is the 3rd time I have purchased this fan. I dropped the first one and it became very noisy/out of balance. The second one was poorly assembled and the wire broke right at the usb connector. I was able to solder it and get it to work for a bit but eventually the bandaid broke. Hopefully this one lasts.
  • Pros: Does Its Job, Easy To Install, Light Easy For Travel
  • Cons: Tend To Break

  • Summary: Picked it up for $5 at an in store sale. Couldn't complain as it was very cheap. The passive cooling is nice in that there is no fan to wear out or contribute more noise. When not in use, it takes up very little room to store. I could not make it for the price.
  • Pros: Very compact, no noise
  • Cons: Passive cooling may be inadequate sometimes.

  • Summary: It's a passive cooler with a slick little stand that lies flat if you want it to. If you don't need a fan shooting air right at your laptop, then I would recommend it. I got it for the wife so she would stop using my Eastman and Laird TMNT graphic novel for a flat surface. My childhood...
  • Pros: Light, slim, easy to use, metal conducts heat and holes for airflow, so much slicker than a big, clunky, plastic cooler.
  • Cons: None so far.

Side cooling?

Anonymous, Newegg
5 June 2007
  • Summary: My laptop
  • Pros: Blows enough air under the computer
  • Cons: Blows the wrong direction due to circular fans. All airflow comes out the right side of the laptop instead of the front (cools hand more then the computer). So the airflow misses almost half of the base of the computer (Hard Drive area).

Be Cool

  • Excerpt: "...supplies company. I chose the Antec Notebook Cooler for everyone, simply because it was slightly cheaper than the alternative; the cost was around £27. The Antec Notebook Cooler is about the width of my laptop, roughly 30 cm across, and about 3cm high. The base is black plastic, and the top surface, where the fan is, is a silver metal. It is not quite rectangular in shape, with indentations on each side. The cooling unit is very easy to set up - ...

  • Excerpt: Several months ago, I was told by the office IT support that we should really all have notebook cooling fans as standard, after someone's laptop had a bit of an overheating issue. I really wasn't convinced, but I dutifully offered everyone the option of having one of these fans, and then ordered several, including one for myself from our office supplies company.
