Use the DV input

James D., Newegg

  • Summary: When burning directly from VHS tapes, the DVDs exhibited a stuttering effect, very noticiable during any kind of motion. It would also tend to start pixelating the picture for one frame about once a second after several minutes of recording - totally unacceptable.
  • Pros: Easy and quick, doubles as an external burner for computer. Good quality once I figured out the secret (use the DV input, and a camcorder in pass-thru mode rather than the analog inputs.)
  • Cons: Poor quality conversion of VHS (stuttering and pixelating) when directly connected to VCR. Sony tech support did not respond to my request for assistance.
