Summary: I replaced it with an LG DVD-R/W that never stops running. I only order LG DVD-R/W units now, never Sony/Optifart again.
Pros: none that I can think of. overall rating gets 1 rotten egg, but I'd actually not give it even a rotten egg, if possible. glad to see it out of stock, and hope to never see another one.
Cons: I purchased this, but moved and got really busy, then installed it almost a year later. It will not read ANY CD or DVD of any flavor. So much for Sony/Optifart. I can't return it because of being way past 30 days, and out of warranty, too. It was DOA and missing in action!
There must be some major defect with these batch of drives...

Summary: The drive's performance seem to nosedive at the one year mark, with intermittent successful media burns at first, and ultimately, massive read & write errors and huge waste of optical discs ... probably will not buy again.
Pros: Low cost & easy availability on Newegg.
Cons: The DVD burner is of very shoddy & inferior quality: Had to keep replacing the drive over and over. Just recently bought a third replacement from Newegg ... albeit switching brands this time around.
Pros: Works great, just like it should. These New Drive are a bit shorter / Vs. the old Drives back in the day... i would say at lease 3 inches or more... I installed it into a external (Bytech) USB Drive unit... Works great.
Summary: This is probably the most disappointing product I've ever put into my chassis, and I'll never purchase another Sony optical drive. A year is far too short of a life-span for any staple component. It had a SINGLE job and it failed at it.
Pros: The eject button worked.
Cons: After using it for over a year, it stopped playing DVDs. After checking into it a bit more I realized that it had switched, by itself, to Region 2 (I'm in Region 1)- not too big of a deal honestly, but the problem is it REFUSED to let me change regions. The weird part is I've never changed the re...
Summary: I bought this for a family member to replace a dead CD reader in their Dell computer. Since it is an OEM part it came without any software so he isn't able to burn discs. If there is any burning suits for old Windows operating systems that is.
Pros: Bought at typical Newegg low price with free shipping. Works as a CD/ DVD reader on an older Dell system with Windows ME.
Summary: It also refuses to make breakfast and clean laundry, but that is hardly a con for an optical drive. But seriously though, I'm going to try to return this guy and buy a SATA DVD Burner instead... And replace a few other things... :(
Pros: -It turns on and the LED flashes green
Cons: -It is very finicky with my motherboard -There are no online instructions on how to set the jumper (for this specific drive) -It scratched my Vista OS disk -It just doesn't work!!! Arrrrrgh :P
