Burn out

Peter N., Newegg
3 November 2006
  • Summary: Got it stock with the Vaio FJ270/b. if your looking for a replacement drive, find another.
  • Pros: Worked for awhile
  • Cons: Only had the drive for about 2 weeks, but after a cd burn, it wouldn't read or write anymore. It can still read DVD's and burn them, but for cd's it died. -Eject button is pretty inconvienent as well

Sony Optical Drives Unreliable

Michael W., Newegg
1 November 2006
  • Summary: Never going to buy another Sony optical drive.
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Have had several of these die early or come DOA. Sony does not support them - there is no warranty for OEM parts. Unfortunately, I did not buy these from Newegg so I couldn't take advantage of their awsome support.

Broke within a week

Anonymous, Newegg
2 January 2006
  • Summary: I made the bad decision of ordering an OEM. If you don't want to be stuck with a wasted $xx investment, stick to retail products with support.
  • Pros: NewEgg (as always) had great delivery. When it worked it was great. It burned DVD's, CD's quickly.
  • Cons: After just about a week of owning it; it broke. It wouldn't recognize any CD's. To top it all off, its OEM so neither Sony OR NewEgg support it.

William M., Newegg
2 December 2005
  • Summary: Just got one for my 700m too, and also had to remove the black sleeve (6 screws and a lil bit of sticky stuff). Just simple plug n play after that. Burned a 70min cd in 5 min and a dvd in 12. Sony + Newegg = a quailty buy!
  • Pros: Sony quality, good burn speeds and sample rate.
  • Cons: Has a bit of a hum when burning/reading, but what drive doesnt?

SONY DW-Q58A good on a Dell XPS Gen 2

Reginald S., Newegg
10 November 2005
  • Summary: So far, so good on a Dell XPS Gen 2 As previosly stated on Newegg reviews this drive works great on Dells, however you must take the black sleeve and the connector off your drive. But thats no issue at all, since any 4 year should be able to do it.

User Review

Michele F., Newegg
31 October 2005
  • Summary: After seeing the previous review I too purchased this for my Dell 700M. The other reviewer is correct. You do have to remove the black sleeve and plug relocator from your stock drive and install it on this drive in order to use this with the 700M, but once the swap is done, this drive is plug and...

So far, so good

Devin B., Newegg
17 October 2005
  • Summary: I just installed this drive into my Dell 700m. It took a little work with a screwdriver to get the black sleeve and the connector off of the old drive, but the computer recognized the drive with no complaints. I burned 3 GB onto a disk in 10 minutes using Nero.
