Summary: I purchased this for use with my Acer notebook. Plugged it in and immediately burned recovery DVDs with no issues at all. Requiring the AC adapter is a bit of bummer, but yet it was known when I purchased it.
Pros: - Works - Sturdy Alum Case/Shell - Comes with USB cable and power supply
Cons: - Requires AC Power Supply to function - Doesn't seem to be the fastest drive
Summary: It does what it is supposed to do, so no real complaints. However, after experiencing the DVD read speeds, I would much prefer something like 16x (There is a LiteOn drive for about the same price at 16x, although a bit bulkier and white).
Pros: -Works right out of the box without having to use a disc (Vista 64) -Reads DVDs smoothly for playback -Write speeds are right inline with all other external drives -Small form factor -Nice look
Cons: -Painfully slow read speeds (like ripping DVD backups)...though not out of line of most other external drives -Black finish shows finger prints
Summary: Seems to work fine, decided not to send back.
Pros: Seems to work fine, looks nice, metal case not plastic.
Cons: Didn't work at first, would not open when button was pushed, used a paper clip in access hole. Then started working fine from then on. Eject door doesn't feel quite right regarding closure alignment.
