"A good drive, but it has its flaws"

CNET
24 November 2004
  • Pros: A good drive, which does what it says on the box.
  • Cons: If it fails because of the data buffer being empty, the drive crashes and only a power reboot can recover it. Also, I'm on my second, as the first one burned disks that became unreadable towards the outside edge of the disc.

"Sony DRU-700A"

CNET
18 October 2004
  • Pros: Looks great and works great. I bought mine and month later put the latest firmware in it just to keep it up to date and wow it made it perform even better. I only ever made one "coaster" so far out of 100 disc. I did not use the software that it came w

"I've been through 2 of them"

CNET
21 June 2004
  • Pros: This is where I want to go with my home movies. Dual layer burning. This drive looks sharp, has interchangable face plate, and pretty good specs.
  • Cons: I've been through 2 of them. I can't find any support info for my problem. And learned a few cons on the way. This drive isn't made by Sony. It's made by Lite-On, stamped with the Sony name. There have been "issues" with the firmware, but I can't fin
