Summary: Received the Sony BWU-500S, Installed the Cyberlink Software, installed the drive in my computer. My primary reason for choosing the Sony is because they were one of the first companies to embrace and develope blu ray. The computer found the drive immedieately. I tried simple things initially to see if it would read various CD's and DVD's which it did without a problem.
Summary: I finally decided to graduate into the Blu-Ray scene with the Sony BWU-500S after some comparisons with other brands. The drive itself works great, quiet and fast. Tho I have yet to actually burn any BR-Ds I have watched dozens of Blu-Ray movies and it plays flawlessly every time. The only problem I have with the purchase was the software that came with it.
Summary: Movies look better than PS3!!! Burns blue ray discs!!! What more could you want!!! My system: AMD Phenom II X6 1100t Gigabyte 990fx UD-5 Sparkle Calibre X560 Ti Df's in SLI 1 Tb WD CAVIAR BLACK 16 gigs Ram G Skill Ripjaw X
Summary: I think this is the best blu-ray writer WITH 3d support you can get. I looked into all the entry-range ones from Samsung, lite-on and LG but I have always been a fan of Sony's superior customer service, plus its the company that INVENTED bluray, so I didn't mind spending a little extra and I don't regret it so far. Though I burned only one 25 gig data disc and played just one movie so far, I think this is a keeper!
Summary: Through user error, I ordered two of these. I put one in my main setup and one in my HTPC. So far, so good. The burn times are good, and I haven't made a coster yet. Backed up the better part of 40 Blu-Rays so far.
Summary: I got this drive about 1 month ago. I have burned every type of media including BD-R, BD-RE DL and worked every time. Drive is silent. I also have used the LTH media (much cheaper) and worked every time. So far 100%. The software that comes with it is nice- it allows you to burn data BD-Rs.
