Almost a year later

Mycal W., Newegg
9 February 2013
  • Pros: Great drive, absolutely no problems, it's quiet, only problems I've had with playing Blu-rays are the discs that require a remote, not the drives fault though. My last review I gave it 3 stars because I was annoyed with the included software, but now I feel the drive deserves a full 5 star rating...
  • Cons: None, aside from the included software.

Easy Install, Software so-so

Eric S., Newegg
19 June 2012
  • Summary: Haven't burned anything yet.
  • Pros: Plays well. Not too loud.
  • Cons: I'm glad it came with software, and the Cyberlink software plays fine. But be warned that if you install the whole suite of software, you are also installing services that run in the background that will a) update it's own media library of all your media, b) a desktop gadget eating ~50MB for burn...

3D Blu Ray player and burner - nice

Jaime D., Newegg
14 June 2012
  • Summary: This is a very nice and inexpensive DVD/BluRay player and burner. It does it all. This SONY will play most any disc that the average HTPC or PC enthusiast is ever likely to want. The first thing I did was download the latest firmware from SONY's website.
  • Pros: One drive to rule them all! Plays most any consumer format you will ever want. Can burn BluRay discs as well. Plays 3D BluRays too. Very quiet, and very fast spin up.
  • Cons: None that I know of.

Buy the OEM version instead

Mycal W., Newegg
2 March 2012
  • Summary: Buy the OEM version of the drive that's $30 cheaper and put that money towards real software from a real company that isn't run my chimpanzee's.
  • Pros: Great drive, quiet, works exactly as advertised.
  • Cons: The included CyberLink software is absolute garbage. I've never seen a worse package of software, and I've never seen a media player with a less user friendly interface. If the blu ray disc has mouse support disabled, don't bother trying to watch it with CyberLink PowerDVD's worthless on-screen r...
