Very Good, But...

Eric W., Newegg
11 August 2012
  • Summary: If I was going to buy another BD drive, I would have serious look at the others.
  • Pros: Works very well. All formats and BD functionality. Nice solid mechanics.
  • Cons: Seemed to overheat or become unstable after prolonged use. Updating the firmware (which was very easy) seemed to fix 95% of that. It can still overheat if you go BD after BD, and you just have to shut down the computer and let it cool.

Died within 6 months

Jonathan B., Newegg
13 March 2012
  • Summary: Run. Run away. I barely used this drive and it croaked within a few months. Possibly from neglect? I don't know, but I've never had a drive die so fast and with so little use.
  • Pros: None worth mentioning.
  • Cons: Drive can't read discs any longer. This is with minimal use (played less than 50 movies) and never used it for burning.

Works like a charm

David R., Newegg
6 March 2012
  • Pros: Does exactly as advertised and it's one of the more quiet DVD devices I've used. It's not silent, but the sound level and quality is nice.
  • Cons: no software included... but HEY... none was supposed to be included!

Money Burner

Sidney B., Newegg
6 March 2012
  • Summary: Loading tray always closed very noisily. Began to not read discs, BD/DVDs, more frequently. Purchased from NewEgg in September 2011 and stopped reading discs in February 2012. Worst optical disc drive I have EVERY owned. Will be testing Sony's return policy.
  • Pros: None.
  • Cons: Stopped reading discs after 5 months.

I am not NASCAR!

Regina B., Newegg
4 March 2012
  • Pros: It reads, it writes, all reasonably well.
  • Cons: This is not specific to this drive, but a comment that no manufacturer will get more than a 3 out of me until they quit putting more logos than a NASCAR racer on the front of what is supposed to be a plain black drive going into my media center. When I can simply install the product without takin...

Working as intended

Beth H., Newegg
27 February 2012
  • Summary: As other people have mentioned, you need software to watch movies on your system. This product, being OEM, does not come with the necessary software, so you either have to know workarounds, or buy the software separately.
  • Pros: Pretty quiet. Easy installation. No clicking noises.
  • Cons: None.
