Extremely Loud DVD-RW Drive!!

NDS "USER HTPC", Amazon
8 July 2014
  • Summary: This is by far the loudest Drive I've ever seen or heard! Though drive was easy to install and appears to work, the fact the it sounds like a thrashing machine even when not in use, makes it unacceptable - no matter how it works! Attempted to test it just by viewing a movie and it only got louder!

Did not Work, drive would spin and stop working

WD, Amazon
24 September 2013
  • Summary: Received the drive install in a new computer build. When burning a DVD data disk the drive would spin and then hang, boot required to restore operation. Replaced with another brand that works with the DVD media and computer.

Poor quality product

a girl, Amazon
10 June 2013
  • Summary: I tested this DVD recorder with two DVD and two CD disks. DVD disks were from Sony and CD disks from Fujifilm. All of them had severe problems. For example: PI errors maximum: 15 PI failures maximum: 9 While DVD recorder was able to correct all of the errors, the amount is far exceeding standard.

Warranty is dumb

Christopher J., Newegg
18 February 2013
  • Pros: Worked for a while
  • Cons: It died and then I tried to do the warranty stuff on their website and it said my serial number was invalid and 100% sure it was correct. I guess I don't get a replacement

Design Fail

Matthew H., Newegg
6 December 2012
  • Summary: This drive does not behave like a standard CD/DVD burner. I have several applications that write directly to the DVD in order to duplicate the DVD/CD or mostly to create restore disks for my customers. This drive is the first one that does not get recognized by any of the software.
  • Pros: It works for some things.
  • Cons: Badly designed firmware.

Not Happy

Gregory P. Vinci, Amazon
30 November 2012
  • Summary: This DVD player quit working after about six months of use. I guess you get what you pay for. I'm not very happy and probably won't buy any more computer equipment on the internet again.

User Review

Richard D., Newegg
27 November 2012
  • Pros: When it works it does a good job.
  • Cons: It does not work half the time. It just sits there and shuttles back and forth. Once in a while it begins to work. I have tried two of them. The same thing with both. If anyone has any ideas about this I would to know.

Very Loud! Beware

George Kelley, Amazon
15 November 2012
  • Summary: Bought this for a friends build. I took the Sony name for granted I guess, because this is the one part I didn't dive very deep into reviews. I can assure you that this is the LOUDEST DVD player I have ever heard.

You get what you pay for.

Richard F., Newegg
17 October 2012
  • Pros: Cheap.
  • Cons: Product was DOA. From the reviews it seems that this product works most of the time, but beware, it may not work when you get it.
