  • Summary: I love these Samsung DVD drives WITH Lightscribe support. As of this writing Newegg doesn't carry Samsung's with Lightscribe support so I have to go elsewhere now.... That stinks.....
  • Pros: Quiet, Reliable, Lightscribe support
  • Cons: Newegg Doesn't have these at this time so I have to get them elsewhere now.

Does the job at an unbeatable price

Phil B., Newegg
27 July 2009
  • Summary: Haven't used Lightscribe yet, because I don't keep the media on hand. Regardless, you can't go wrong for the price.
  • Pros: Reasonably quiet, seems to reach advertised speeds, doesn't have an obnoxious blue LED burning a tunnel through my retinas.
  • Cons: Not as black as my anodized case (none of drives are, though).

SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223Q LightScribe Support - OEM38443239

Brant F., Newegg
26 July 2009
  • Pros: Has burned every disk that I have put into it, even those pesky Sony DVD's without one failure. That is a pretty good record. DL does fine.
  • Cons: Light scribe is overrated in my opinion. I'd rather do DVD labels all day.

great ripping drive

James L., Newegg
12 July 2009
  • Summary: use the firmware patch tool to increase SL reading speed to 18x, and DL reading speed from 12x to 16x. According to Maximum PC, that cut the DL ripping time from over 15 min to 8.5 min.
  • Pros: Good construction, smooth/quiet tray mechanism; best ripping speed in class if you mod the firmware to disable Riplock.
  • Cons: the max burning speed is "only" 22x instead of 24x, although the time difference in burning a disc is miniscule. Default reading speed of DL discs is limited by Riplock.

fast and dependable

David B., Newegg
12 July 2009
  • Summary: It is black, and match my Thermake case. Runs intel duo 3.0ghz with 4gb ram, also had 300gb harddrive and GTX 260.
  • Pros: It is simple as other old IDE. But runs with Sata and are fast. Burn nearly half of the time compare to IDE. Worth it for those who burns movies, music, etc...
  • Cons: Window did not pick up. Had to install driver. Pack 3 should have driver for it already by now.
