  • Pros: Has been a flawless drive for over 3 months. There is nothing I can complain about it yet.
  • Cons: None so far.

Problem, but fixed

Jennifer H., Newegg
21 July 2009
  • Pros: Works well, haven't tried the lightscribe feature yet, though.
  • Cons: Stopped working after about 3 months and couldn't update the firmware. Driver was up to date according to vista. I had to manually delete the registry file and it started working again. It may have a compatability issue with my version of Nero (I'm using 8, but had 6 installed for a bit)?? Workin...

Silent But Violent

Adrian S., Newegg
15 July 2009
  • Summary: This gum I'm chewing has lost its flavor but I'm afraid of spitting it out because i don't know what I'll chew next O.o
  • Pros: The drive itself is great, I don't burn alot or rip a whole lot from dvds or cds so keep that in mind. But I wanted a nice looking drive that could do anything I felt in the mood for and was quiet. I've had drives in the past that sounded as though a low flying jet was passing by. So I'm very hap...
  • Cons: it cost a tiny bit more then some other drives but on the other hand you don't get software with most other drives. It's not completely silent, my case is loud and I can still notice it whirling up but It may just be the nature of the beast, maybe no disk drive can be completely quiet.

PowerDVD + trash = true

Rick J., Newegg
15 July 2009
  • Summary: DVD functionality is fine, blueray is lacking but only due to software restrictions. Many issues with the PowerDVD "update" process, at this point I cannot play BlueRay disks with this drive.
  • Pros: It's shiny
  • Cons: Software

Great little DVD burner

Edward L., Newegg
11 July 2009
  • Summary: It works albeit a little on the slow side. Google around for the firmware "fix".
  • Pros: Very quiet even at high spin, very inexpensive.
  • Cons: Slower than my old Sony burner (needs to apply latest firmware and/or hack it).

Last Part

Steve C., Newegg
27 June 2009
  • Summary: Overall, this is a good item to get, especially if you have a black case. Runs well, does what Samsung advertises and is in a combo (had a system with CD burner and DVD player, yikes, a lot of wires).
  • Pros: For the price and for what it does, this is a deal. DVD/CD rom burner, SATA, Lightscribe, etc. So far no issues.
  • Cons: First, no cables. This should be included. Second is the Nero software. There are easier ones out there to use so why complicate things. So dinged them on these two issues which brings down 1 point.

Good inexpensive drive.

J C., Newegg
24 June 2009
  • Pros: Used this for a family member's computer. Great price at the time ($22.99 + free shipping). Worked right out of the box without any problems.
  • Cons: Not the quietest drive out there, but acceptable. Small 2MB cache.

Meh...

Anonymous, Newegg
13 June 2009
  • Summary: I don't know if this is really a Samgsung, or if it's just a re-badged generic drive. Nowhere in Device Manager does it say "Samsung". At first I thought I was shipped the wrong product. I suppose it's as good as any other drive with comparable features. I haven't noticed anything special about it.
  • Pros: Works. Black. I think maybe it came with some burning software -- haven't tried it yet.
  • Cons: Would be nice if it said somewhere on the front of the drive WHAT the drive did or what it was compatible with. For example, "light scribe", "DVD+/-R", or something. My drive was even missing some of the "markings" shown in the picture.

Solid Drive

Anonymous, Newegg
10 June 2009
  • Summary: Still worth it, just be aware its not the fastest drive out there to access discs with.
  • Pros: Good read / write, does everything an internal drive should.
  • Cons: The access speed on the disc read is the slowest part of my computer -1 star for that, as I've seen other drives of no name with faster access speeds.
